Where should the output jack be located?

I own and play both. I think my SG and Jazz Bass are top jack, while my other basses are side jack.
There's a distinction of side jack, too. I prefer the Thunderbird implementation where the cord goes along the direction of the neck. The Steinberger Spirit style puts the cord perpendicular to the neck, and digs into my thigh when playing seated.
 
Tunes are terrible on the bottom but recessed and angled. Or could be genius

All right, this seems like it hasn't been beaten to death in a while, let's get a thread going on jack location. Show you know jack!

For my part, I like top jacks best, but not enough to avoid getting a bass with a side jack. For side jacks, I don't like recessed tele style, as I prefer right angle plugs for side jacks. Ibanez style recessed top jacks are RIGHT OUT!
I have both. much prefer side jacks.
