Jack location poll--dare to disagree!

I own and play both. I think my SG and Jazz Bass are top jack, while my other basses are side jack.
There's a distinction of side jack, too. I prefer the Thunderbird implementation where the cord goes along the direction of the neck. The Steinberger Spirit style puts the cord perpendicular to the neck, and digs into my thigh when playing seated.

For me, a top jack is a sine qua non.... along with passive electronics and at least 21 frets..... although the temptation of my profile pic SRC6 caused me to relax the passive requirement.....

Since I only play at home nowadays, and I do so sitting down, a top mounted jack is a lot more convenient. Side mounted often looks better, though.

Switchcraft "frame" jack...location is not an issue. Barrel jacks are a consumable IME and more difficult to service.

It depends. My passive bass has the jack on top, but my active bass has it on the side. I don't really care.

It's not mine. Too lazy to open the case. Mine has no jagged edges. But they are all on the bottom like that you need a stand that would lift it higher off the floor.

Both my P and my Epi have top mounts, but my Tele guitar has side.
Now that I'm usually using wireless dongles, I prefer side mount.
It keeps that dang dongle out of the way!

What I dislike is recessed (Strat, Tele, Ibanez style); anything that requires me swap from a 90deg cable to to a straight cable.
