Well... I don't own one - and, being a lefty, I can't, really. But, I did noodle around with one when they first came out - I can play right handed long enough to do that. But, that was a while ago...
What strings sound good on it? If you want rounds... sorry; can't help you. Out of the 27 basses I own right now, 2 wear Roto 88 Tapes; one wears short scale TI JR324 Jazz Rounds; all the rest wear a whole bunch of different flats. So... flats that would cover "a bit of everything"? I'd go with a set of Fender 9050L's. Good low and high end; but focused on low-mids and mids. I've had them on several basses, and still do on 2 of them. A little more low end? The GHS #3025 Precision Flats; maybe the EB Group IV Flats. I'm liking the latter a lot, on my fretless Schecter Stiletto Studio... But, there are an awful lot of flats out there, and they all sound different from one another. Which is why I use so many different ones...
OP, any player you like might help us. Name some names! Otherwise, Steve Harris plays metal but uses Roto flats (55?). I’d be looking for rounds with what you wrote. DR Hi or Fat Beams, Lo Riders, Pure Blues, Dunlop Super Brights, D’Addario XL, Rotosound 66’s all will give you a bright, crisp sound.
