Jaco Tribute Bass Build

.... I'm so depressed now. When I first saw this thread it was like finding a complete season DVD box set for a great TV show, because I could watch it all at one time. But now that I realize you are still waiting on the neck..... I'm bummed. All the work you did looks great though. Mucho props to you sir!

idk if this is really adding to the thread or not.
but this is probably one of the last pictures of jaco with his bass.

It's so odd, because normally I'd be chomping at the bit to get it. However, so much time has passed that I've accepted the wait. I know when I get it, it will be so great. It just sucks to wait. Maybe my Ibanez refurb and this will be done at the same time??
:crying:

Jus about every post on this page exemplify why luthiers despise most YOUNG musicians, and some older ones too. It was well stated that the work would take time, along with all the other work, this is an attempt to recreate something that only he can do to be legit. When the next Jaco wannabe goes to him, hopefully he'll say "do it yourself".
If bassgod isn't whining, nobody else should be. IT'S NOT THE ONLY THING HE IS DOING.

I understand customer service, prompt turnaround, etc. For some people, instant gratification is the name of the game. However, my request is special and only one man on this planet can do it. Jaco had one main guy, and he is the only luthier for this project, IMO. I really have no choice. I'm so happy with his work that I don't mind waiting. Besides, I have 4 other basses to use, so its not a problem. Also, Kevin doesn't really do guitar repair/modification work anymore. It doesn't make the money that sound amplification does. He does it when he can so I hope he gets it done before he goes out on tour, in June. We'll see.

He's going out on tour in June??? Oh sh@t:( this does not appear jolly.

I apologize for my "whining."

Dude, how often do you change your avatar?!

I certainly won't apologise for any "whining". What can I say? It's exciting. People who don't understand that have obviously never had a Christmas. I can't wait til this happens. Also, I wouldn't call it whining. Just voicing excitement. Nobody is saying "Hurry up you ****er"

Just an update; I stopped by Kaufman Daenzer yesterday. I dropped off my 4th deposit. Chris said that Kevin was talking about starting my bass. Sigh. I really hope he completes it before he goes on tour in June. Only time will tell.

I have a feeling that this may be his final "Jaco" neck.

He really doesn't seem too eager to get started. The good side is, if it is his final "Jaco" neck...you will own the last one...which will make it even more special.

From that point of view, I'm with you on it being worth the wait.

How many "Jaco" necks has he done anyway? is it something that people regularly have him do, or are you like, the only one who has asked him to do this?

I agree. I think he will show Holly, his main luthier his secret, and she will continue his work. But yes, I think this will be the last Kaufman neck.

Once again, I have 4 great basses, so I'm not hurting.

Regardless of the delays, Kaufman does excellent work. I have two modded cheaper basses and two pricier EB Sterlings. Due to my mods and Kevin's work on all my instruments, they are all equals in my arsenal. I now have trouble deciding on which axe to use. It has never been like that for me. In the past, I would have basses that were my primary pieces, and others that were "case queens". Not anymore! :bassist:

He used to do a 3-6 every year. The last one he did was for Will Lee. Lee bought a Fender Jaco Relic'd CS tribute, and discovered that it didn't have the playability of the original. So, he sent it down to Kevin. That was like 2008.
