I've been quietly following this thread off and on for a while. Thanks for posting it!

I'm confused, though. :eyebrow:

It sounds like they took it back so they could address the neck pocket issue, but it also sounds like you are still looking at the gap to decide if you are just going to leave it alone or have it fixed. I thought that's what they had it for??Invalid Link Removed

Well, I was going to have it fixed, but the sides on the neck pocket were super tight. I didn't want to alter the tight sides by pushing the neck back. I looked at it, and it really isn't worth the extra hassle. It could be done, but the gap is pretty small and not very noticeable. We're talking about 1/64".

Wow.. I just read through the whole thread at once, couldn't stop reading :o

Just gotta say I admire your patience on this, it's turning out great!

The attention to details is quite 'insane', like drill holes and relicing of screws etc.

Overall very nice work and an amazing bass to boot :D looking forward to see the final pics :) *subscribes*

When I send it to Dan in December, I will have him post sound clips. He has a whole recording setup with canned drums, etc.

I now know why Jaco always solo'd the bridge. It just sounds nice and burpy/plunky. It's my favorite bass to play while watching TV.

I have certain basses that beg for certain playing styles. With the Jaco, fast runs, and harmonics are usually things I work on.

Sorry I haven't visited lately. I'm trying to visit TB on a less frequent basis, since a strong case of GAS follows. I said I would ship the bass off in December, but the holidays are eating up all my free time. I will scour my local music store for boxes this week. Realistically, I'm thinking Mid January for ship off. So, I'm sorry to let everyone down. I suck.

I spent over an hour reading this thread, it just sucked me in!! I love the bass and hope you won't forget to post some sound clips... or maybe a vid?

I've had a gutless '78 jazz for a while now waiting for restoration and your project inspired me to finally start ordering parts :)

I've never been one for relic'd basses, I've always prefered to see the natural aging process. It probably has something to do with the fact that I don't see the relic-ing done, that it's all done in a factory, et cetera et cetera.

However, I'm loving the thread! I'm loving watching this process!

Well, I'm glad relic dislikers are enoying my process. I emailed with Dan Atkinson last night. Recent changes in my life have made it difficult to nail down some time to grab a box. It will happen. I also had this nightmare a few nights ago that Dan would get my bass and never give it back. I woke in a pool of sweat. Of course my fiance knows me, and was like, "So did you dream about snakes or someone stealing your sh*t?" Yes, all my nightmares revolve around those two subjects. I need help. :(

Wow... I'm speechless. This is the nicest, most interesting, funniest thread I've read/seen on TalkBass since I joined the community about a year ago. I spent about 2 hours reading almost all the replies and looking at the pictures of your beautiful creation. I've always wanted to do a work like this on a bass, but I'm a college guy with few money, few time and only one bass, a Jazz Bass of course. The only "Jaco thing" I've done to my instrumet is defretting the neck, just as rubbish as Jaco did in his time. But no worries I coated it and plays great. Plus I have a new neck on its way, that's why I didn't care screwing the old neck. I've waited about 2 weeks for all the parts to arrive (Allparts 70's style B&B neck, Wilkinson vintage style tuners, Fender string guide and an awesome 70's Fender Jazz Bass decal I found) and it's been like years for me!!! The only thing that has arrived is the decal. I can't imagine that you waited almost a year to get all the work done. I admire you for that and of course for your beautiful BOD creation.
