Jaguar Question

played amazing and sounded great. Now here's my question, when looking it over this morning I saw that it was Made in Japan not Crafted in Japan, and when I ran the serial number in this website http://www.guitardaterproject.org/ it told me that it was made in 1994-1995...
My tests indicate that that site is unreliable and the last time I looked, even Invalid Link Removed hadn't been updated since 2005. :hmm:

Extrapolating from the codes shown, "T" would indicate a 2006-2007 manufacture.

What makes you think it's an '09?

Oh, I'm pretty confident that it is a genuine 09 build: I was able to buy mine direct from Fender Australia - because of my SWR endorsement - within 2 days of it clearing customs from Japan. Prior to that they had no stock. This was about a week before Christmas 2009.

It's a nice bass!

I had to pop open my white coffin case and look at mine. It's also red, made in 2008
Again, I wonder how you know it's a 2008. It was my impression that Jaguars had been out of production for some years and the current ones being closed out were from around 2007 or so ("T" serial numbers). If this keeps up, I may have to disassemble mine and look for date stamps. By actual dating by datestamps, many new closeout instruments I've bought were as much as three years old.

My dealer said it was a 2008 when I bought it. He had just gotten it, so since it was new he may have just "assumed" it had just been made. The serial number is an "R" serial number, if that helps the confusion.
Boy, does it! CheckInvalid Link Removed:

"R + 5 digits 2004-2005"

That would have made it one of the earliest ones, if so.

These still appear in the 2009 buyer's guides, so I guess I thought they were still in production.
Fender carries stuff in their literature for a year or two after it's ceased production to support stocks still in stores. Sometimes they keep it longer, figuring they may turn that model back on, as they apparently have with the '51RIs after discontinuing them about a year ago. Weird, huh?

I have heard from all the current sellers of the Jaguar that it is discontinued and has been out of production for a while. What we're getting is older stock that was unsold.

I got a reply from a Fender guru that they were still in production, and they now offer a white one, minus the matching headstock. He's a local collector of various Fenders, and usually in the know.
I think he's out of the loop on this, though. The whites and the sunbursts were introduced later, yes, but some time ago. All Jaguars are discontinued -- at least in the US -- according to Guitar Center, Sam Ash and Musician's Friend. I've been repeatedly told by all three, personally.

I'm not clear on whether Dyna's still making them for the Japanese market.

You got me wondering, so I began visiting websites. Zzzzsounds says discontinued, and they can't get any. Just about everybody else, GC, Musicians Friend, etal. seem to be able to provide them in either Hot Rod Red or Sunburst in limitless amounts. They also state they were "new in 2006." What's that Alice said, "it just gets curiouser and curiouser?" Whatever the case, I love my Jaguar. (I haven't found any white ones though, maybe only in Japan?)
