Hey Guys, just picked up a brand new Hot Rod Red Jag at Best Buy yesterday, got it home played it and it was awesome, played amazing and sounded great. Now here's my question, when looking it over this morning I saw that it was Made in Japan not Crafted in Japan, and when I ran the serial number in this website http://www.guitardaterproject.org/ it told me that it was made in 1994-1995, i didn't even know that they were made in '94, remember this thing is Brand New, i could tell by looking at it..Now is this possible ? and if so is this a good or bad thing...Any imput would be great because I'm puzzled.......Thanks

Here's a picture......

That one was made last year, the Fender guide is misleading, the whole crafted/made thing is different depending on whether it's a standard/vintage or deluxe, for instance I have an Aerodyne jazz and a Jag and the Aerodyne is an S serial and 'crafted'...

Don't even sweat it.. I have a few "Made in Japan" basses that were bought during an era in the early 90's when IMO Fender was putting crap on store walls trying to sell..Some Japanese made Fenders..

I think the Japanese made instruments that were superior in craftsmanship and build, especially the necks..
and very well set up at purchase!

I had Sunset Custom Shop in LA build me a Jazz clone of all Japanese parts in 1992.. Pre Schecter/ESP..That I swear I will never sell !
It's still one of my main recording Basses..

I've also owned every major make of Fender Bass and will agree the Vintage reissue series are the best builds today..
I do like the Jaguar..

Alhough I have had two of the same Fender instruments in different colors that didn't feel or sound quite the same..

So don't bother yourself about the where it's made, or history unless you are trying to sell.. Or just really want to know for some reason..

If it feels right it's right!
peace,
Al

MY ‘09 is a made in Japan.
I believe all the new Jags form some time last year have the made in Japan stamp.

RIIGHT...mines a 2008 "crafted" - is that actually the deal? I only found out the other day on this thread that they apparently do "standard" and "deluxe" versions...what the hell? Whats the difference? I thought it was only available in the "deluxe" model...

They only do one version, if you can find me any official link that says otherwise then go ahead and paste it.

Come on you Irons.

The Made/Crafted thing has been done to death here many, many times and as far as I know there's been no meaningful or useful information to come of it, even so much as determining if it indicates a change in subcontractors or instrument primary builder. I believe that Dyna-Gakki has used both terms on their markings.

I suspect it's as simple as having the country-of-origin laws somewhere now requiring a more specific terminology on the markings for export to that market.

"Made in" and "Assembled in" have carefully delineated meanings. Fender management once explained to me what "Made in USA" legally had to explicitly indicate on their products sold in the US and how it's different from what it has to mean in the EU.

"Lovingly concocted in ___" or "Crafted in ___" probably don't have legal meanings.

This is just a guess on my part, but I think it's probably a good one. ;)

I also love the "DON'T THROW THIS IN THE GARBAGE!" icon.:p
