JAM ARTIS (Bruno Mars - BET Awards)

I can't believe no one's posted this yet. One of the best all around stage performances I've ever seen from a bassist. Nailing each deceptively complex change, dancing as if he's a backup singer, and laying down the most funky (and song appropriate!) fills. This guy is becoming a hero of mine.

Jesus. Thanks for sharing!

It was posted but he deserves all the kudos he gets. Not only a great bassist. Dude's got a very positive personality, can sing and dance and is a great showman! He's got the best gig on earth at the moment and I doubt he's going anywhere else for a good while.

It seems fun as hell how they work together. Don't remember a band that has that much fun on stage and still kills.

Apologies - I didn't do a very exhaustive search.

OK, don't nobody hit me here; but !:roflmao:

1) I had a gig once where I had to do some very rudimentary dance steps in sync w/ the band & b/u singers. Lemme tell ya, it is HARD! least for me. As a player, I got groove and rhythm and move nicely so I'm told on stage, but ALL props to the Hooligans for doing that. I mean it is skill.

2) I've heard the Bassist, and no doubt he is top-tier. Otherwise no way he works with one of the top acts in the biz.
Bruno has paid his dues and made his bones.

So-- remember do not hit me!

I saw this (it will be repeated tonight) I honestly thought that the music was tracked or played by a House Band.
Did not see drums (Which KILLED) did not see plug-in (wireless?) from Bass or guitar.

Am I wrong? I don't care if they did not play, I know they certainly CAN- but the choreography was pretty involved, sitting down, etc.

What say you?

The drummer was visible and working pretty hard. but if you watch him, it's easy to see he wasn't the only percussion coming through the mains. And he wasn't pretending to cover them (sampled handclaps, for example).

Even if Artis wasn't live, I watched his hands as much as possible and it appeared to me that he was playing every note.

Also, the bass appeared to have a cable and wireless plugged in.

The show was supposed to be repeated; I tried to watch, but I think they cut off Bruno's opening- Some B-Ball game or something, IDK.

Nonetheless- Remember, all props to The Hooligans playing/dancing. Top-rate.

But still not 100% that performance was live.

Glad you said first :).

I love this guy. I think he's the most entertaining bass player to come along in a while, and one of the best. His lines are always tasty... bla, bla, bla... the dude is awesome - but that's tracked.

Still thought it was great.

Agreed; great & agreed-tracked. There are some talented player/dancers for sure, but IMO- You can't hardly keep that pocket while doing that degree of choreography.

Now I have to watch it again in detail lol

Watch it again. I don't think it was tracked. Jam was definitely playing live. At least that is my opinion. It's hard to watch his hands while he's moving around so much but I saw him doing certain things with his hands that matched what I heard.

I'm sure he could sync his bass-playing to a track; to me the horn players were almost certainly doing "air horn"

Look- It's no big. Almost ALL the shows here in Las Vegas, big & small use tracks. From Brittney & J-Lo to the local casino rooms. My girl & I were having dinner the other night at a small local gaming room (good deals on food here!) They had a solo performer at the bar, Country guy. Out of curiosity, we went over; of course few at the bar gave a hoot, but anyhoo-
I'm a musician right? I notice these things. Guy was tuning up, looking down, while a guitar-bass-drum track was playing the intro chords. I cracked up at that. Done so here mainly because lots of solo/duos need the whole $200 for their own selves!

Now Bruno, surely a l'il more sophisticated than that kinda thing.
If that was live-Kudos to them for working it while doing a pretty involved dance routine.
If tracked and/or backing House band, so what?
(I say tracked!):roflmao:
