Japanese J pups advice

Hi all

First post here, new to bass (I usually play guitar and mandolin) just picked up a 94 Fender MIJ jazz bass. It had a grey foto flame finish that had completely failed and cracked off. I'm in the process of refinishing it black (easy to get black paint here). I've pulled all the electronics, and the pickups have a ceramic bar magnet across the bottom of the pole pieces instead of the usual magnetised poles. They read at 5.6K and 5.9K. I can't find much info on the web about this type of design beyond that most people replace them.
Does anyone have experience of these pickups. If they are not well regarded, I'll look around for others. I would prefer hum-cancelling anyway but don't want to miss out if these are considered good.

I realise that I am asking this question before I've had a chance to reassemble the guitar and hear them, just want to know what received wisdom there is out there.

They should be at least decent. If you don't like the tone you can try swapping the magnet for an alnico bar of similar size

The weak spot of the mij basses are the electronics, they are decent but nothing great.either grab someone's used American pups or go aftermarket. Changing the pups on those basses makes them come to life. The one I just sold sounded very warm and woody and full,
God I miss it already.

Thanks. Picked up some Area Js. Do I need to replace the pots and caps at the same time? If so, what are the recommended values for pots and caps with noiseless pups?
