Japanese Squier Club??

In the meantime, here's my latest aquisition.........

These Katana's are really nice basses other than being a 32" scale. I played it for several days and only realized it was a short scale when I tore it down to do the fret dressing and setup :o The neck is just awesome and it plays like a dream. P bass tone to die for :bassist: At under 7lbs it's effortless to play. Having one lightweight, short scale in the collection is a cool thing :D

Those Katana's are weird looking but cool too. I notice the JV's are found more with our TBer's from over the pond since they were not an export to the USA. Would love to find one but i bet they cost a few bones.

I paid $600 plus shipping for mine and would would do it again if the right deal presented itself. At $600, a clean one is worth EVERY penny.

They wanted $450.00 for my VG /SQ so $600 for a VG/ JV is right. I would pay that. I have seen a couple from over the pond on Ebay going for over a grand! I never see JV's for sale around much so dont know what a fair price even is. 4-500 is where SQ's are now.

I am now getting this SQ. Its been modded with a badass 2 , active EMGS and a hipshot D tuner. I am going to be selling the badass and getting a vintage style threaded bridge, selling the EMGS and using 62 reissue pickups/CTS pots and scouring the globe for an original SQ tuning machine , which is going to be hard.

I will start a before after thread along with price run down of fixing it up to a more "classic" P way.

Very cool! FWIW I have 62 RI's on my modded MIM. To me the 62's are more thumpy ,vintagy sounding than the pups on my 83' SQ. The SQ pups are close but have a bit more bite and growl less vintage sounding but very nice. The SQ pups remind me more of the current P pups in MIA P basses. They are great pups no matter and the 62s Will be your best bet. Getting that back to close to period correct will be cool. If you cant find the tuners get the hipshot or Fender RI. Those SQs are sweet ...nice score.

Here's my August-October 1982 Squier JV Precision '57RI. I got it for €75 (about $95) and even got a Fender Sidekick Bass 50 amp with it. The previous owner bought it years ago, played it for 2 years then put it in his attic. It's spotless.

Thanks!

Yes I have had 62 reissues before i would probably keep the stock pickups if they were stock but since there active EMG's there getting pulled.

The bass+case was 330$ , after I selling the pickups/wiring harness, the bridge and also the case I will have about 200$ into it, then I will add a vintage thread bridge and CTS pots and 62 reissue pickups.

The 62 reissues , CTS pots , wiring harness with switchcraft jack will all be free to me, from some sources I have:cool:

In the end my estimate is about 225$ maybe less but not more, it sure wont be a collectors bass but a great players bass.

Nice! After all of that you will have an awesome bass. I would never know this was a MIJ Squier if i didn't look at the headstock. It feels like and older MIA P bass in my hands and sounds like one. The secret is they are maybe better made and much cheaper..tee hee :D

haha well thats good because I just sold an american vintage precision , like a 1500$ bass because i am entering my junior year of college and needed the money. So i am use to a nice american P so hopefully this gets me the same feel for alot less dollar:D

I cant wait tell the damn thing gets here.
