Gee you managed to mispell "Ellefson", "Megadeth", and "Metallica" all in the same post while slagging a member of one of the bands. Yeah I'll be sure to take your opinion into consideration in the future.
I can spell "Ellefson", "Megadeth" and "Metallica", and I too think "Ellefson" is a far more skilled bass player than Burton or Newsted. But I've never really cared much for Megadeth's music, whereas "Master of Puppets" is one of my favourite records.
And Chaoslord, you actually misspelled "misspell".

i just want to say its tragic that some ppl dont care about the bands enough to get their names right, i mean how long time can it take to get Metallica right??

I think jason was pretty cool but compared to Cliff he is pretty crap. If anyone has seen cliff em all you would know what im talkin about he played the sickest solos ive ever seen.

What's really tragic is that some people don't care about his/her own appearance on this BB enough to press the "Spell Check" button when they compile their posts. How long could it take to get some simple words spelt the correct way?
maybe u got all ****in day to post a reply, but i dont have time to wait on a ****in spell checkwith my ****in 33.3 modem, especialy when im on my way to school...
Well, thanks a bunch, killer. I'm merely suggesting that you shouldn't complain on other persons' spelling skills when your own are pretty much non-existent. You speak with a foul tongue as well (we all know what that proves), too foul for my taste, and with that bad attitude of yours you're not getting anywhere except away from here. Just a fair warning.
BTW, I was myself on my way to school.
i dont live in USA or England or where ever u guys r from... im from Sweden... and i do got a C+ in English so i should maybe not complain, but stil, i think Metallica aint that hard to spell, and after all the years they have played, i think its impossible to not know who metallica spells...

Det är alltid trevligt med fler svenskar här, vi är lite underrepresenterade, tyvärr (ett tiotal skulle jag tro). Jag ber om ursäkt om jag lät väl brysk i mina tidigare inlägg, men du kastar verkligen sten i glashus när du gnäller över Erics stavningsproblem. Och även om Metallica har hållit på länge nog (alldeles för länge i min mening... 
), så är inte deras bandnamn vanligare än vissa ord som du konsekvent stavar fel på. Så du borde inte gnälla. Men visst, är man infödd engelsman/amerikanare/australiensare etc så tycker jag också att man BORDE vara bättre på sitt språk än vad somliga visar. 
Äh, vad tusan, vi stryker ett streck över det hela. Jag ska inte flåsa dig i nacken för en sådan här skitsak, men kom ihåg: bemöt folk med respekt och du blir själv bemött med respekt. Ja, det finns kanske undantag (rötägg finns ju överallt), men de blir inte långvariga häromkring. Välkommen och hoppas du har det trevligt här!

Eh...While Cliff is was better, Jason wasn't bad. His first cd with Metallica, ...And Justice For All, in my opinion was one of there best. Black/Load/ReLoad do have somewhat good bass lines, but it's not the same hardcore Metallica that fans were used to. It's not fair to say that Jason isn't a good bass player, because him and Cliff played differently with different styles. Though I think Metallica should take me as their bass player. heheh..

I have no problem with the fact that he thinks Ellefson is a better bassist. I would just think that if you're going to slam someone and praise someone else you probably shouldn't misspell (see I got it right that time) both band names and the name of the player you're praising.
My personal opinion is Cliff was more unique. However I don't list Cliff as an influence except for in the respect that he's the reason I picked up bass. Most of my technique and style of playing comes from Newsted and Ellefson.

I love Newsteds playing on the S&M album, he takes cliff's lines and makes 'em his own. The solo in "call of ktulu" is absolutely mind blowing!!
I think that Newstead was/is a good bass player. But he did not contribute too much with the bass in most of the songs. Cliff wrote And Justice for All. After that they lost their edge and angry feel. I like Newstead but he can't hold a candle to Cliff. I think that Newstead is partially responsible for Metallica going softer. He probably wasn't as assertive as Cliff was it seems. Because in interviews he said that his parts were just handed to him and he played them with no input.
Going from a Newstead thread to a Metallica thing....
It amazes me that people the last few years have continued to say that "Metallica sucks, they have sold out, if they cared about the fans they would play only old stuff, blah blah blah". The point I think these people are missing is that over the years Metallica has grown and matured as a band, and their music is naturally going to change because of that. If you are loud and aggressive all the time then people will tend to lose interest.
Take bands like Slayer for example. They have played the same type of music their entire career, and they have made a living off of it, but they still do not have the wide ranging audience that Metallica has. I don't think that Slayer has had a Platinum album to their credit yet, and I think the last 3 or 4 Metallica albums went multi-platinum.
The point is, in order for a band to stay vital, they have to grow and evolve musically. If you play the same thing all the time, people get bored with it and stop listening, because they have heard it before. There are plenty of loud and angry bands on the scene now, so Metallica does not have to do that anymore. They can stretch out and do other things, like the S&M album. So, go listen to Kill 'em All when you need aggression, and then listen to S&M when you want something different.

I think that´s mostly because they didn´t want him to contribute much, I read somewhere that he quit TRYING to write for Metallica in 96..
Wouldn't it be nice if Jaymz and Lars would stop being the control freaks and let Newsted be heard? No wonder he left,15 years of being shadowed. Peace,Luke
