It's great! I was using both a Noble through the Straight Ahead and alternating with an Effectrode LA-1A as a preamp through the Straight Ahead. They were both delicious.
Full disclosure, since I also have a Baby Sumo I let the Straight Ahead go. Great little amp, but I didn't need both.
I just picked up mine used. It had a very strange grounding issue with the "lid"/cover that Ryan at Trickfish helped me quickly sort out.
I ran my R Bass straight to the power amp, and hoo-boy!!!! It has an internal 3 band Trickish pre onboard, so it literally goes bass>SA Power Amp>Speakers.
The onboard pre with passive tone knob and 2 coil switches on the bass does so much to shape the tone! Really plug and play for most of the stuff I do!
Yup....for 200 clams? One happy camper!

Just created this pedal board. Sonic Research Turbo Tuner --> Noble tube preamp/DI --> Jay Gantz Straight Ahead amp w/300 watts @ 8ohms and 500 watts @ 4ohms.
I sprayed it satin black. I also bought a new cover that was thicker than the flimsy stock cover. I had it custom cut to 4.5 inch x 6.75 inch and 1/8" thickness to show a uniform aluminum boundary around the cover. Here's the part number: Invalid Link Removed
When screwed into place, the new cover is as solid as a rock. The stock grill was flexible and had a flimsy feel. This one is a huge improvement. You want something on a pedal board to withstand ANY wayward foot tapping!!
I purchased a backpack rain cover for mine ... Sometimes the stage is low and customers drinks are close.
I asked Jay if it was OK to velcro the amp directly to a pedalboard. He said this would not be a problem. But since the amp can run warm, I decided to leave the rubber feet on for extra airspace and ventilation underneath. I stuck a small piece of velcro on each foot. The amp stays in place firm as can be. I think these feet are larger than the stock feet used by Jay.

A small camera bag works well. I put my SA PA in in one and works like a charm. 18 bucks on Amazon.

Here's a pic of the inside, nice assembly, tight. The fan has green markings on the left side; fins are visible through the clear cover.
It would be worth another $25 box for a decent box.

could be. But it sounds great, knob is rock solid, weight and form factor are in the pocket. Oh, and the price is right. I’m happy with it!

On a closer look, the box is 5" x 7" on top, yes? If so, a uniform offset would be either 4.5 x 6.5 or 4.75 x 6.75.
The important measurements are for the inner square formed by the screw holes. My dimensions match the holes, enabling a perfect fit. You can go longer, slightly, and take the left-to-right length match the edge of the box, but I didn't do that for two reasons:
- The uniform metal border around the black screen looks better (to me).
- The edges of the screen are not perfectly smooth, and if they extend to the edges, you risk cutting your skin if quickly slid along an edge.
Has anyone tried this with a Headway EDB-2 H.E.? I'm trying to figure out if the Headway signal will be hot enough. Here are the specs for the output from the manual.
I'd love to somehow incorporate a JG SA amp. Currently it would just add more connections and line runs compared to what I use now. But I'll keep at it.
