Jay Turser Beatle Copy?

Hey guys. I play a P-Bass Classic Vibe that I really love, but I'm a small guy and it gives my wrist and back some trouble. I was hoping to go with something smaller and I like the look/sound of the Jay Turser Beatle Copy. Has anyone played one? I've heard the Hofner Icons don't really hold up well or I'd give that a shot.

Actually, the Icon, I've heard, sounds more like the iconic Beatles Paul McCartney sound. If you're going for an old school, Beatles style bass, without breaking the bank, I'd go Icon. Jay Turser is a little more modern sound.
This is a topic near and dear to me. Hope i could help.

I've owned a Jay Turser and an Icon. The Icon will definitely hold up well. Who ever told you the Icon's won't hold up don't kow what they are talking about.

The JT was a decent bass, but the electronics were pretty unremarkable.

The Icon on the other hand, with a set of tapewounds sounds pretty close to a German Hofner.

They both will hold up well, uness you are prone to banging them against the wall or fending off stage-jumpers with it.

Either one is a good buy. Neither sounds exactly like a German Hofner, but of the two the Icon is closest.

Having owned 2 500/1 German Hofners, I now have an Ignition/Icon Club bass and I'm totally excited about the Club bass. I also have owned a Rogue VB100 (which is essentially the same as the Jay Turser) for the last 8-10 years and it's been great. No complaints. I prefer the Club over the Violin as at 62 I no longer need the 'Beatle Thing' and the Club has a little larger acoustic body and is also a little easier to buy. It is the same in all respects other than body shape.

I have played live as well as recorded the Club and it sounds great. Hofner has now dropped the name Icon and units produced now are called 'Ignition'. I don't know what the Jay Turser sells for, but the Rogue can be bought new for under $200 with free shipping.
For the extra $100-$150 the Ignition is very nice, plus it sez "Hofner" on the head stock.
From what I've seen looking at them, the Rogue and Jay Turser, as well as the Epiphone are all private labeled at the same factory.
