Jazz Bass (4-string) BEAD problem

Hey everyone!

So I have this Jazz Bass and I really need the low-B and I hate 5-strings, but I face some problems with my low-B.
I use a hybrid GHS Boomers set (065-085-115-135) and the 135-B sounds muddy and muted. No sustain and brightness. The EAD strings are fine!
I tried a DR DDT set (065-125) but the 125 wasnt enough for a low-B.

I have used BEAD tuning a lot. Setting the pickup height closer to the B string will usually help, even though it looks odd because the pickups will slant higher from the B and lower towards the G. It helps compensate for the narrow 4 string neck and the height above the frets needed for the B to ring without fretbuzz. It's definitely the cheapest solution to try.

I ran my MIJ Fender Jazz 4 fretless for years tuned and strung BEAD before I got my PentaBuzz. Just the bottom dweller in me! Fender has a set with 130's I believe. I used the Taperwounds and had to jack the saddle a little to compensate.

I will lay odds on your .135 being a 4 wrap string - putting a 4 wrap string under a 3 wrap string usually results in at least a slight shift in tone (toward the darker) on the thick string.

I am three wraps to .190 fwiw - but I know I am the exception and not the rule.
