Jazz Bass Pickups sound distorted

Hi,

i have a fender jb62 (in medium scale) which produces distorted sounded notes when a note is played. I checked the gain on the amp on compared it to other basses. Also when turning all pots down on the bass, there's still signal coming to the amp (especially when the tone is wide open).

Any suggestions or should I bring it right away to a tech an have the electronics replaces?

Thanks

Sounds to me like the pots aren’t well grounded. Check for corrosion at the control plate beginning at the jack. Jazzes rely on the plate itself to ground the pots so if there’s not good contact beginning at the jack, the signal can’t dump to ground when turning the pots down because there is no ground.
