Double Bass jazz bass 'riffs' you need to know

Can anyone recommend a recording of "Song for My Father?" I've played this tune a few times without having heard it and I'm totally unaware of the standard bassline.

You should probably listen to the original Horace Silver version (although of those I have I like the Michel Camilo version).

The bassline is just a med. latin bossa-style with a root-fifth pattern; Dum...da-DA...dum-DUM...da-DA...etc. (Of course with a description like that I'm sure you still have no idea of the bassline )

If you have the slightest interest in Jazz then the Horace Silver album of that name is a must-have/listen - the Sax solo by Joe Henderson on the title tune is one of my all-time favourites on record!!

But this is one of those albums that wrote the book on Hard Bop and how to play and arrange for a Jazz quintet!!

No question about that! It's hard for me to hear anyone else's version in my head.

Horace is one of those guys like Mingus, where you think "great writer"....and then you check out some video or audio of him, and just realize (again) that he's a complete mother****** on piano.
