jazz mod [darkstar(s?)]

I have a Dillion jazz (semi-decent Korean bass) and am thinking of putting a single DarkStar in the bridge and ditching the neck pup altogether. I'll try to get the new pups coils a little closer to the neck for some fatness. What do you think? Can you all recommend some good (relatively inexpensive) passive pre-amps? Should I just go Fender? I'm not really certain how this is going to sound... you think I should just bite the bullet and go for two darkstars?

If you just put in a single DS and stay passive, then Bayou Cables makes a wiring kit and it's very reasonably priced iirc. A 'passive pre' is only your generic volume and tone pots.

I'd personally put in two and a great pre. That's what'll happen to my Hohner B2ADB eventually.
