Jazz or P Bass?

Um I didn't bother to read all the posts but did anybody suggest a P/J configuration?

Egalitarian.
I play a Jazz because I find it comfortable and with split coil pickups it gets a very Precision-like tone when I solo the neck pickup.
Also: I thought there was a standing rule against religious arguments on Talkbass.com.
As someone with a P and a J, I disagree greatly with the opinion that a soloed bridge pickup on a J sounds like a P.
This question will always be asked and there is no point in being negative to the OP. I had this dilemma a year or two ago as I was all set to order a new lefty 2008 USA Fender but could not decide between a Jazz or P. It all came down to going into a store and just sitting with one of each for awhile and playing them. I had to demo right handed versions but it was enough to get a feel for the neck sizes and tonal options.
In the end I ordered a Jazz and then later bought a P. I love them both but would probably keep the Jazz over the Precision if I could only have one simply because I love the bridge pup soloed tone as well as using both pups together. I also love the way the offset body rests on me in a standing position.
Having said that, the Pbass is a must have in many ways but it all depends on which one YOU like better.

It's the neck P/U on the Jazz that sounds like a P-Bass.
It's not excatly a P-Bass tone but darn close.
I'm for the SX 2 of each plus a P/J. At least that's what I would do.

Go to your local music retailer. Play ALL of the ones that are within your budget. When one jumps into your lap and screams, "Take me home, b****!!!", that's the one you buy. If none jump in your lap, go to another store. Repeat until you find your answer.
