it's quite a hard question to answer - on a j-bass, u just play different. it's easier to move around cause of the slim neck and the sound is slimmer too. a p-bass forces u to use a little less notes.
i figured a p-bass works better in rock bands and if you have more space and no distorted guitars to fight against (soundwise), a jazzbass works just as fine if not better. still, the p-bass has more power and more growl. and it's triggering my effects way cooler than my j. that's why i voted for p.

'75 P modded in '80.

In defense of the OP it's not a thread of which is better it's a thread of which one do you chose...

Okay, this is not a thread/poll to ask which is better or worse. It is simply to see what you guys prefer, the Jazz or P bass. Your choice doesn't have to be Fender; it may be a Lakland Bob Glaub P bass or a Sadowsky Metro Jazz (for ex).

see... Anyway when there is a thread like this the Jazz always wins the poll.. Don't believe me?? I dare you to find a thread where the P-Bass has won the poll..:D

I voted P-Bass.... I like the playability and sound out of my Hwy One P-Bass more then I do my Jazz Bass..

Yankees vs Red Sox

JAZZ vs PRECISION

the epic struggles that time will always know

You forgot:

[G1] Unicron vs [the] Deathstar (TF fans will get this one)

And for Elric (Eternal Champion) fans:

Stormbringer vs Mournblade....

I can't vote on this at all. I learned on a Pneck, my bestest bass is P-like (T40) yet I love my VMJ and my Dyna (and my Cowpoke :bassist: and the rest I have)... I suppose from force of habit I'd lean toward P but I also like the more narrow J....I think it varies depending on what day it is really.... :ninja:...maybe its a seasonal thing?

I learned on a P bass, but my current lack of an operable P bass makes me lean toward my Jazz. VM Jazz + Fender Flats = :D. i do plan on requesting a nice P for graduation, however :p

once i have a P again, it'll probably depend on how i feel. If i want groove, i'll reach for a P. If i'm feelin' like Sheehan or victor, i'm goin for my J.
