Okay, I made a bunch of craigslist sales which have me up some money so I'm lookin to buy me a nice bass that will last and give me the tone i want. I really want a nice metallic-ish punk sound such as bouncing souls, alkaline trio, anti-flag, etc. I've really been looking at either a fender standard jazz bass or waiting for the new ray 34 classic active (I love maple necks and the original one's dont have maple). I know all of these bassists play the jazz bass but if the better tone is in the rays I'd definitely get it plus in recent times I've been very unsatisfied with fender. I have a behringer combo amp if it matters. if theres any other basses people have in mind im also definitely up for any suggestions!!

I have both a Marcus Miller Jazz and a Ray34 so i kno both tones pretty well. For the style of music you'll be playing, you will be much better off with the Ray34... On a sidenote it might be better to get the older Rays with rosewood neck simply because it has 3 band EQ instead of the 2 w/maple neck..
hey im lookin to stay cheaper around $600. On another note, would the ray 34 custom be better than the regular or is there any differences?
