Jazz pick up positioning

I have two Fender custom shop 60s jazz pick ups that I'm thinking about putting in my Geddy Lee jazz bass.

First thing, they were stuck together when I got them, you think they demagnetized?

Second, I don't think they are labelled bridge or neck. Does it matter where they go?

And I'm assuming this is an upgrade...but let me know if you've changed stock Geddy Lee pups for Fender Custom shop 60s and regretted it.

Oh yeah I should day my GL is from 98...not sure what stock pups are actually in it. They have 70s j bass pups?

a) no they are not demagnetised...not possible...
b) neck and bridge are different sizes, bridge is longer

The nice thing is that you have the pickups in front of you. You can install them and see how they sound, which I would do just for S&G if I were you because I like to do that kind of stuff. You may notice a huge difference one way or the other, or you may notice nothing, at which point you decide if it adds more value to have them in the bass or sold on the classifieds or put into another bass.

I'm always in favor of trying stuff out because I enjoy having yet another project to tinker with, but I see an awful lot of people on this forum changing pickups or deciding to change pickups for no tangible reason.

Scott...agree with your suggestion. I was going to change some other stuff like change pots and wires, but I don't think it'll make a big difference. But I'm sure I can find a million posts to the contrary...

Your GL jazz bass will already have good pots, wiring and tone cap. Changing any of that will prove to be a waste of time.

For the pickups, experimentation is fun. Go for it. You can always put it right back to stock. What you'll find with the CS 60's is a darkening of the highs and thickening of the low mids. They are very nice pickups but IMHO will kill that raw Geddy bite.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably leave everything alone and just put the stock passive circuit back in there. Save the pick ups for something else...

I'm about 95% sure Geddy,s come stock with fenders bargain ceramic magnet pups, so I'd consider the cs 60s an upgrade.

To my ears, my Geddy Jazz sounds a bit thin. Lacking low mid and lows a bit too much for me. I have not gotten around to change out pups but I truly believe this is a worthy upgrade.
