Jazz Rig

Since you like PA rigs, you may want to get a little 2 or 3-way cab like the fEarful. If you want small, you could get a high xmax neo 12" and a mid driver + optional tweeter and it would put out as much as a standard 410. There aren't many places making cabs like that, but one that is is Low Down Sound in Detroit. Prices aren't bad, either...I think around $600. There's another company coming out with a line of cabs soon called Audio Kinesis. Don't know the price range of their stuff yet, but they're going to have 3 or 4 different cabs in that style to choose from.

You could also get a standard bass cab and maybe save some money, but to cut a blues gig, I think you'd need at least a 115. A good 210 would cut it, but not a cheap one. Whole world of cabs like that out there...play a few and see what you think.

I'm confused by your "need to put together a jazz/blues rig" opening line. Are you saying that you need an amp for the jazz and blues gigs you do, or are you suggesting something else altogether? I ask because given the option I'd probably use a different rig (at least a different cab) for jazz than what I'd use for blues, R&B or rock.

You went back to cabs, Jon?

Well, I'm not touring with a rock band anymore. If I'm playing with a big band, or doing small gigs (like are so common in Japan), I use a rig.

Any big stage thing, though, and I'm not using an amp at all....

I'm thinking just a little eq change ought to be good to switch. I use any of my cabs for any of my gigs, depends on the room size, how much gear I feel like schlepping around, not the type of music...

Couple of EA vl210s for big rooms, or one for medium rooms. An avatar neo 210 for smaller rooms, or medium rooms with long carries/stairs.

Most of it is in the fingers anyway. Jazz gigs I'll play mostly bridge pickup, pluck by the bridge. Others, both pickups, pluck more towards the front pickup.
