I’m looking for recommendations for jazz setup on a New Standard Cleveland hybrid that I purchased new from Wil in ‘21. It came setup with Spiro mediums. I’ve decided that I’m more comfortable with Weichs and am also hoping to lower the action. I play strictly pizz outside of maintenance shedding for intonation.
I had my previous cheapo ply, which I sold to get this bass and that I gigged for 30 years, setup by Steve Benefeld in Golden Valley, MN in the ‘90’s. It played amazing after his setup. I’m looking for some similar magic and am guessing it’s easily within reach given the higher quality of my current instrument. I’m not sure if Steve is still around but I’ve found zero info for him online.
Does anyone know Steve’s status or can anyone recommend a shop or individual that is a standout for a jazz pizz setup within a day’s drive of Omaha, NE? Maybe Kansas City, Minneapolis, Denver, Chicago, St. Louis, Tulsa, etc? I’d consider driving further if the cost-benefit adds up.
