Yes indeed, it's a really cool place.
The piano player is a classical percussionist, he's got a lot of strange gears.

Oh ! I had never heard about Gary Peacock until I met the people I play with.
Gary Peacock has got a very delicate touch, I play like a bear.
Nevertheless, they appreciate my kind of naive playing, I fear nothing (a little bit more than two years of playing, no lesson at all, except one day the brother of François gave me a free lesson of bowing on line because he was intrigued).

So, Lionel, maybe you guys can listen to this. I've posted in elsewhere on TB. I think it's certainly one of the very best Standards Trio performances. The last few minutes are incomparable.

Yes, thanks for sharing, it's basically what they want from me in this band.
I am honestly more comfortable when it's about swing but they think I can play more freely than I'm doing here.
It's not so bad but it's not so good either.
I'm planning to buy an EUB in order to play the double bass when my wife and I are sitting on the sofa watching TV.
The double bass used to be in the attic when I didn't play in bands, so I practiced everyday, now it's another story, the double bass travels a little bit more, when I'm not playing, the instrument sleeps in its bag.
It's a mess when I take it out from its bag.
The attic is too hot in Summer... Believe me taking the bass from the garage to the attic... That's a mess !
The instrument stays in its bag between the garage and the attic, and it's exactly where we live !

As far as the piano (and horns, etc.), I think it's far more difficult to play slow ballads. You're not churning out licks, quick arpeggios or fast scale fragments, etc. The really creative players (all instruments) go in harmonic directions that the bass player, if they're listening carefully will engage in. Those moments are less frequent, but truly special. They bring smiles on the faces who hear, recognize, and appreciate.

Listening to what we played, I figure out I'm not so far from what they want, some and a lot of technical defects can be heard...
Do you know what the pianist says when I'm playing out of tune or the wrong note ?
"The bass is not supposed to be heard."
We laugh a lot !
French is not his mother tongue so when he is giving advice or something else, he is as harsh as I am when I'm talking to you here.
"Don't play like a disable, everyone can play like you do, do what you want, explore, find something, the audience doesn't care if you're a beginner, if it's out of tune we don't mind, do something ! The bow, the bow... Some bow is good but not too much, if you can avoid it it's good but we want the bow !"
