Apart from the vintage ones, I rarely find a Fender J that moves me. My number 1 is a warmoth J. I like the design, I just think in the end other folks do it more to my liking

Up until about a year ago, I would have voted J. Over the last year I've really fallen in love with my EBMM. If I had to pick just one, this would be it. My J and P are real dogs, though, so my opinion is def biased.

Jazz Bass.
When I turned 40 and started playing bass guitar again, I discovered that I'm definitely a J-guy.
I mainly use it, both fretless and fretted, for any situation.

My answer is the same as it is every time this "you can only have One" thread reappears. If that were the case, then I'd have none. I'd retire; sell them all - along with the house and everything else; keep only what I'd need for life on this thing; and disappear into the sunset. As I've said before; I'm not a musician who also owns a motorcycle. I'm a Biker who happens to own a few basses... To tell the truth, I've run the numbers, and I'm pretty sure I could really do just that...

It's interesting to see all the various comments and preferences.

My comments - give me anyone of these except the Fenders. Although they never did me wrong, but my playing and sound improved when I stopped using them.

If you want a Fender type bass, another one worth checking out is G & L. They have a broad range of models with an incredible selection of finishes and other options that let you get precisely what you want.

I also love my Rics - I've played one for decades and the tone and workmanship are simply fantastic.

Oh boy. That's tough. I've been surviving on one bass for several years: the Stingray.

If I had to have one forever, I'd take my American Standard Precision 5-string back and never get rid of it again. That bass was the ****.
