if you can come up with something better for what muggsy is, then by all means.
they were an absolute spectacle of violence, precision, construction and demolition. the most chaotic, yet spellbinding, evening of my life.
its a shame i had to follow them. they totally outplayed us.
tagging "core" on the end doesnt make it better. it denotes that the music has roots in hardcore, which is true.
that was intended to be pretty tongue in cheek. they're really closest to a mathcore band, but they work entirely on groove, not structure. more like a hardcore jam band. with static and motown samples between songs.
I agree that the bad sound of the youtube-clip makes it useless. At least to me, because with that kind of music I want to actually hear every note. Live it is more about the energy, of course, but then I'd want to be there in person.
That said, I listened to the myspace tracks and I agree that they're pretty cool. I don't hear any "jazz" in it, though. That one sax lick could have been from a funk tune, too. I'd call it "mathcore" as that's what most people label The Dillinger Escape Plan. For me, that term is a better description of what I hear.
But I guess labels for music (especially this kind) aren't that useful anyway and in the end it is about your vision of the music.

To be fair, our vocalist is frequently drunk, and when he drinks he sort of starts to believe not only that he can fly, but also that he can sing. It's all quite terrifying in action, really.

ok fair enough, I see what you mean now, I have to admit I haven't listened to the clips of muggsy yet, I'm at work now. The name chaotic-core just struck me as stupid.
On the topic of mathcore, I never really listened to it, tried listening to the dillinger escape plan but the screaming and extreme speed turned me off

muggsy and botch are the break **** and play whatever they feel like types.
Really digging their 'comeback' record, Jupiter... even if they got a guitarist to play bass :scowl:

Mmk, I concede... your stuff on Myspace is far better sounding. Camcorder/ cell phone recordings really do eliminate a lot. I'm not a huge fan of math type rock, but while we're mentioning some names. I know of Daughters, who recently are no longer a band, and All Leather, who is not quite so mathish.
Doubtless you define 'jazz' in a tiresomely literal sense. I don't usually dole out advice over the internet, but... you should buy yourself something nice, I think it's best.

yea, it's defnately got a groove that comes up.
you should check out exuvious (i think that's right). even the encyclopedia mettalum calls them "Fusion metal". Then there's Kathaarsys, who does jazz/black metal. Dunno how much you're into tr00 metal, but they're both good.
also, Tangled Thoughts on Leaving is good jazz/chaos/dissonance-core.

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving are from Perth, and they're actually buddies of mine! Haaa, small world. Very good band; in fact, a ton of the more creative heavy stuff in Australia comes out of WA. Weird. They smoke a lot of weed out there, I suppose.
Hey man, don't get me wrong. I almost like your music. That's a compliment coming from me, even if it doesn't sound like it. It has some groove to it, more than most of this style. But you might as well call it bluegrass, or Mongolian Throatsinging.

You should've given the Myspace link in the OP. The songs over there sound much better than the YT recording. I don't dislike the songs at all (intro to In Medias Res is real cool), but you'd expect it to be an acquired taste for many.

In all seriousness to the OP, I'll be checking you guys out, I really enjoy Link Removed, and you guys seem to be somewhat similar.
