I like it.
I think it has a flow, which can be lacking in people trying to do things in this vein.

I suppose my sense of humour, a bit like this silly band of mine, is also an acquired tasteA bit of politeness wouldn't hurt, you know.

I suppose my sense of humour, a bit like this silly band of mine, is also an acquired taste![]()

Whoa, whoa. Don't give me too much credit; I just recently learnt that contrapuntal elaboration of static harmony is a load of old ballsThere's a fine line between humor and insult. I'd expect an enlightened jazz master like yourself to know that
That, unfortunately, is my sense of humor showing there![]()
If anything, I'd say we'd never sounded better. Feels good, man.
That's interesting - I checked out the Mugsy band mentioned in this thread and felt the same way you do about my band.Wow, I think that is the problem,
Look I get where you are coming from musically,
Exivious is an awesome band; I was tuned on to Mugsy a while back. Just fantastic how every thing of theirs just melts together and finds it way to push forward.
You guys on the other hand are just a bunch talents hacks throwing riffs together trying to find flow, it is uninspired.
Sorry, if these songs came across my desk it would be a good source of amusement, but nothing else.
And judging by you responses to those who don't find the apperception for your bands creative interpretation of jazz/metal
You have a lot of growing up to do.
Cheers, bro. I wish you the best, too, you know, I hope your heady interest in genre-semantics holds you tightly at night and strokes your comb-over.
Refusing to conform to rules that society sets isn't cool when there's nothing wrong with the rule you're breaking.
What I'm saying is, you're ineffectively communicating, and that's bad for you and your audience. And apparently for the sake of being hip by not caring, or something.
As it happens, I'm an 18 year old with luscious blonde hair who, although I don't know or care at all about being hip, enjoys a wider range of genres than you even know exists, and can do a good job of describing all them to someone else, too.
Dissonant jazz? Mate, haven't you heard Ornette Coleman or Bitches Brew or the man Thelonius (arguably he could hear micro-tones that we couldn't though, so maybe his strangeness was unintentional)? You're missing out. I think I will quote one of our guys here, who did an interview recently with Invalid Link Removed (I'm not sure if it's up yet, so... what a scoop!) where he was pretty articulate about the issue at hand. I think it's an interesting few sentiments, check it out:as much as i hate to do it, i have to plus 1 this - you are kind of being douchey about it. this is coming from one that does like your music, and does like jazz/chaos-core - there is honestly little to no "jazz" in it, it's just a catch phrase. Sadly there isn't really a genre name for this type of music yet, of hardcore+"jazz" and hardcore+electronica. For the later I use Synthcore, but i have no good idea for the former and either way i doubt anyone would actually listen to me.
keep on rocking out to your stuff, as i will if you ever release something i can get my hands on, but know that as a band who's doing a newish crossover genre, you're gonna get flak for not staying "pure" enough and "defiling" the two genres.
i'm HUGE on genres, for the record. Like....downright OCD/anal about it. you should see my itunes library.
EDIT: as a proof to the actual lack of jazz...how often do you hear jazz considered "chaotic" or "dissonant"? outside of acid jazz and free jazz.
again, not hating on you, i'm on your side as far as liking your music - i just feel i should try to be the voice of reason, and my OCDness is getting the best of me for throwing around empty/fake genre names (chaos/dossonant-core...honestly? haha)
"Two of our lot are both bonafide educated jazz musicians, with our drummer even teaching professionally for a crust. While it was always our intention to challenge the somewhat deflated metal status quo, it was never going to be with our astonishing knowledge of dead music, per se. But… have you ever seen Charlie Mingus play? He sweats, his face twists with meaningful rage, he screams at the engineer to turn his microphone up so he can get his damn demons flowing; for a long time, jazz was the anger of a people savagely oppressed because the human race, unfortunately, is not colour-blind. It is so much more metal than metal could ever hope to be, but in its purest form we can’t do any justice to it. We weren’t there, we don’t know those feelings; we’re relatively privileged Australians. So we brought them together, because, at their hearts, they have so much in common. One wants to be what the other is."

Sonically speaking, our drummer swings, the bass walks (sometimes), the guitar runs through fairly vintage changes... we love the legacy. Not sure how you guys are missing it. Perhaps it's an aspect outweighed by the noisiness.
Sonny-Jim, sonny, Jim, sonny-boy. You don't get to disallow entire relevant sub-genres of music just so you can make a point.-_-
sorry, i forgot avant-garde jazz, as well. generally any form of avant-garde isn't on people's minds for a genre, and i commend you for exploring into it. But one can hardly call avant-garde the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to jazz.
i'm not doubting the aspects of jazz that enter into your music. but there is a point in which genres cease to be one thing and become another. therre are lots of bands now who straddle the line between two genres, and you are one of them.
you also conveniently missed the big point in my last post: i agree with you, that there are elements of jazz, they are just covered up with a lot of elements from hardcore. sorry, maybe i shouldn't have said "little to no". but still, as i was saying, the point is that when you straddle two genres, there will always be people who dislike it because of the bastardization. "you're gonna get flak for not staying "pure" enough and "defiling" the two genres", as i said earlier.
i need to listen to more mingus anyway, thanks for reminding me to delve more into jazz. I've been wanting to.
EDIT: FTR, Ornette Coleman plays free jazz. I did mention him or at least his genre.

But yeah, go listen to The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady for a coupla months. You'll emerge - not entirely unmoth-like - from your silken cocoon, all dusty wings and fire-obsessed cool.
It isn't Jazz, just influenced by it. Whilst equally influenced by Hardcore Punk.People have got some funny conceptions of jazz... I listen to quite a lot of the stuff and this ain't it in the least and if it's related then it's by distant, distant threads.
Thank you.It isn't Jazz, just influenced by it. Whilst equally influenced by Hardcore Punk.
What somegeezer said. Just because certain bands (and sounds) inspire you to get moving and you dig what they've got to say doesn't mean you should come out the other side sounding like them. Don't be daft. If anything, Opeth have given me massive resolve to never, ever write another 6/8 chorus ever again. They have the market corneredThat vid is crap. Myspazz stuff is ace though. I noticed bands like Gojira and Opeth in your influences though... HAHA!!?!??! Where? =P I hear none of these styles. Reminds me a bit like bands such as SikTh and Psyopus. I enjoyed it. =]
