Hi All,

Just scored a sweet set of JBL-K-140 15" speakers.
Never been re-cone, in great shape. no issues. good working order.
To all you JBL experts, can you tell me about these.
Are these 100 or 150 watts, per speaker ?
Going to have a 2x15 cab made for these.
What amps are you using to rock these speakers ?
Should I go tube, or old school solid state like Acoustic Control Corp. ?

For bass, ~100 watts.

How do you know they haven't been reconed? Well done with factory parts it's just about impossible to tell (unless the cone was marked, not all were marked from the factory)

If you are planning on using the K-140 at close to 150 watt rating for bass applications, you will want to be sure a hpf is used. When those drivers were spec'd, there wasn't the deep low end that was expected these days, and the great big amps either. 300 watts at 4 ohms was about the limits for MI applications.

Yes, although, as a 4 string player, I routinely used 500 watt + amps for many years with the K140, in a rack rig that had an HPF, which I usually set at 30 hz. I guess if you wanted to play Reggae, or Dub with a 5 string, these would not be your first choice. I never played in bands that were ear splitting loud, so it was never really a concern for me. I have a K140 in a 115 cab that is going on 30 years, and is still going strong !

Thanks all for info. Goof stuff. Going to have Don at Low Down Sound build 2x15 cab.
I had him build one for me also, with a bullet tweeter, just for some high end sizzle. He might remember doing it for me, and still have the specs. I don't own it anymore, but it had a bottom slot port, with the 15's vertical, not slanted.
