That situation is not similar to the issue here. Imagine the guy asking you for directions while standing 5ft from a big map that clearly shows where the station is.
The guy could ask you a specific question if he's not sure he got it right, or if he's heading to a location not shown on a map, and than you should help the guy out. But asking for things clearly shown on the map standing right next to him? You'd point your finger towards that map and continue on your way.
I guess you didn't notice the guy's white cane with the red tip. That makes the map pretty freakin' useless, doesn't it? As well as the advice to look at it.
Part of the "fun" of the interweb is that you don't know what's on the other end, or how inexperienced they are, or how cumbersome the language is for them. Unfortunately, too many people find their "fun" in bashing on people who are today as inexperienced as they were 5 months or 5 years ago. (Prob one of those cycle-of-luv things.)
