The very first time I had heard of Jeff Andrews was this video:



I was totally blown away by not only his flawless technique, but the sheer musicality of what he was playing. Every bit as much of a genius as some of the more well-known players.

The world has lost a superstar musician and one of the best players to pick up the bass.

It must have been rough to be a contemporary of Jaco and also favor bridge pickup tone. For so many, that automatically equals Jaco.

I feel the same way about Ray Brown. He ran a club not too far from where I was living in the '80s.

So sad to hear. Jeff was only 59 and a great player, always enjoyed listening to him. RIP Jeff, you will be missed.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Jeff had been going to the methadone clinic For many many years. Around 2014 he stopped going and entered rehab for sometime. Then when he came out he eventually relapsed On opiate pills and heroin. Jeff had Double pneumonia because of his heroin use. And unfortunately that’s what killed him, He overdosed on heroin due to all the fentanyl out there and because the user of heroin for a long time, when they quit and then return to the drug, their body can’t take it. The whole situation was a really sad one and unfortunately he covered up this problem instead of seeking legitimate help. And I have to say I tried to tell one of his very close friends, A very well-known musician that played with Jeff in ‘Steps Ahead’ in 2013 about what was happening but he just helped Jeff keep it under the rug. The whole situation really sucked. Sorry guys

He was human and less than perfect. Heroin/fentanyl has destroyed many lives. I am just happy that he left a lot of great music behind.
