Jeff Lorber with Jimmy Haslip

Somehow, this trio seems perfect for Jeff Lorber for where he is now. He is not the young, long haired guy, courting Pop chart action. He doesn’t have a thumbslinger, like Danny Wilson. A Fusion vet, like Haslip, seems like a fine choice. Sonny Emory, the drummer, is fire too.

There's at least one body part I'd give to be able to lock-in with Emory. Haslip's playing is so clean and precise. And, not to sound like a broken record, but, pretty sure Lorber is another Philadelphian. Txs @Dr. Cheese for a yet another inspiring post.

Killer vids man. Excellent. New at this and ignorant of Haslip's bass. Found out its a Roscoe (me, late to the party again). Haslip's tone was really sweet on that Roscoe through the Ampeg. Then heard it through the MarkBass. Now, I'm totally twisted-up. But def happier!

Great post Dr. Their first couple of albums, like the opening song in your vid, was listened-to by me and my buddies countless times back then ( including live ).

So glad to see them on the right side of the grass after all this time.

He played drums at a choir concert I was singing in and he turned it out on the processional song! He was crazy good back then!
Roscoe basses are solid basses. Hard to beat a good Roscoe bass, but it can be done.

Another great Haslip trio.

Saw this trio in Baltimore.. thought it should have been called Oz Noying and the Stay the Hell in the Background Rhythm section..
Dennis and Jimmy did a remarkable job of supporting Oz given what they both bring to the table.
Chatted with Jimmy after the show.. hes a genuinely nice dude.

Great to hear Lorber, always enjoyed his stuff but have not been that dialed in to him for a while. Jimmy Haslip always cool player (even though he plays an alien 6 ). I've really got an earful of Oz Noy in the past few years ... While certainly appreciating what they do, I'm generally not a huge guitar slinger specific fan, but there is something about Oz, his writing and playing, that really grabs me by the ears. And he uses such great ensemble players too!

I wasn’t playing bass at that time, just singing in the choir. Sonny came to play at that concert by way of an invite from William Green (The Magic Dream Band), who was the keys player for that choir.
