Mallia Basses

This question is probably only for the aussies out there.....

But has anyone had any experience with these basses? If so what were your impressions?

I had a quick play of Cameron Undy's 5string a few years ago, but the strings were deader than dead, and to be honest, i cant really remember how it played.

Im interested in a "super jazz" of some kind, but i cant afford the 3million dollars that it would cost to get a sadowsky out here...

.......is there any other sydney luthier's i should check out?

The website is useless I think-no info and only tiny pictures of what appear pretty good looking instruments..

I've a jazz 5 & it's as good as any "super-jazz".
Aaaagghhhj I've only got a cruddy pic available at the mo'.

Ash body, maple board, Aguilar OBP-3, Nordy J5 pups, VTC, active/passive.... Simply superb.

In 2000 I had Jeff Mallia build me a bass to my specification and it is great. I still use it every day.
I have had the pleasure of playing a few of his basses and they are the best basses I have ever played.
Rob, who played bass in Jellybean Jam has one. He let me play it and it feels and sounds exceptional.
Like any artisan made product it is expensive but worth every cent of it.

I own a Malia bass. It was built to my spec about 20 years ago and is pictured in my avatar. I have a Fender USA Jazz Bass, Precision and G&L SB2 so I have a few good basses to compare it to. The Jeff Malia bass is so much better. I can't work out what his magic input is, but the sound and feel is next level.
I have played some of his other basses too. He built the best bass I have ever played, a 5 string that belongs to Rob from the Sydney band Jellybean Jam.
Jeff Malia is a master bass builder.
