Jerry Jones retired

Jerry stayed on the phone with me for a long time, one day in 1993. I remember it well. People don't forget genuinely kind and helpful people like that, and I have never missed a chance to tell someone about his products. Bingo.

On a related subject. Joey from NRBQ totally made me want to play the bass...really more than anyone since Paul McCartney. What an incredibly dynamic player, and what a fantastic sound he is able to get from Jerry's basses! (plus the SVT:)

I've had the joy of getting to try a few of his wonderful creations. I'm a Dano fan, and he took the concept to a new level to say the least. One of my friends
has a few of his guitars and basses in his collection. Good stuff indeed. I wish him the best in his retirement.

I was in Nashville about three weeks ago. I called Jerry several times but got no answer.

I was in Corner Music in Nashville talking to the guys like I always do when I'm down there, and they were telling me that they had just picked up the last order of JJ product. Jerry had told them he was done, finished their order (it included two baritone guitars) and they picked them up that day.

Jerry's wife was retiring, and he decided it was time.

I have a JJ Longhorn6 from 1995 and sold my 1993 Longhorn4 to TBer Tim Marks.

Jerry made great, Dano inspired axes. I live in Neptune, NJ, grew up near the old plant. Jerry really did it right, actually made the ultimate in Danos.

Well I guess it's time to step up and buy another JJ Longhorn. I had a Copperburst Longhorn with the Neptune bridge about 13-14 years ago and sold it after a couple of years. It was a great instrument.

I've been meaning to buy another one for the past couple of years and now that Jerry has retired, the prices could go up as they become scarce.

It's too bad that Jerry didn't sell the business. Perhaps he tried too and couldn't find a buyer.

That was my first thought as well. But with his name on the headstock, perhaps he worried about the tradition continuing with someone else.

I've played a few but never owned one, now I wish I had since I'm guessing prices only going up from here. I need a bass, a baritone, and probably a 12-string.

I've had several vintage Dano's and went through some of the reissues, but I LOVE my JJ Longhorn (popsicle stick bridge). It has all the vintage tone in an instrument you can play and not have to screw around with.

Hope he has a long and enjoyable retirement.

I grew up in a town between the two Dano factories so there were Danos all over when I was growing up and it was my ambition to work there during high school but they closed before I could.

I always had a fondness for the Dano designs and still have a couple of Sears Silvertone dolphin nosed basses.

I also have seversl JJ/Neptunes and Dano RIs.

IMO, of the 3 brands the JJs are the most robust and represent a genuine improvement on the originals while maintaining the original vibe.
