Actually Jerry is retiring. His wife just retired and he decided to join her (I think they're just going to travel). He is an excellent example that a small scale builder can actually be profitable.
It appeared to me just from what I saw at the auction, that he made every part of his instruments in-house. with a very small crew. Very impressive.

Jerry was/is a class act. As a lefty bassist, I always respected the fact that he was one of the few small companies willing to offer left handed instruments in most of his models depsite the limited market. I own a '92 lefty JJ Longhorn and I used to own a JJ Coral Sitar as well (sold it for a ton of money). I just recently did a wedding with the Longhorn and it was just perfect.

I've nearly worn a hole in the top of my early 90's JJ Longhorn from the countless gigs it's suffered!
Anytime I've had to replace anything Jerry always answered his emails or telephone and promptly took care of the situation, often at little or his actual cost.
I hope someone else picks up this special niche and runs with it, although in these tough economic times it will be difficult to maintain the integrity and true customer service which came from Jerry Jones Guitars.
I read about his closing up shop a few weeks ago at one of his distributors websites but thought it was a ploy to move inventory! I own a six/twelve double neck Longhorn as well and hope the prices don't jump too bad as I'd like to add a six string bass and a Guitarlin to the herd!

You might want to jump at one fast as from what I have seen they are moving fairly quickly! When I bought mine there were 2 Longhorn basses for sale at the shop, and they both went the same day last week.
Jerry still answers his own emails, even a couple years into retirement, just like he answered the phone.
He surely made some great instruments.
I guess it is nice to know he still offer customer service for those who owns one of his basses.
I regret selling my Jerry Jones Longhorn, it was such a great bass to play (even if I like the playabillity of my Ibanez Mikro even better, but the Longhorn comes in on a close second place regarding playability of all the bases I have ever laid my hands on) and had such an unique lovely tone.
And while I do love the tone I get out of my Mikro in conjunction with my Trace Elliot GP75SM 130W 15", which I would describe as a punchy mildly agresive tone, I equally loved the warm hollow body tubey tone I got out of my Longhorn in conjunction with my Ampeg B-15S (which I also have been stupid enough to sell), a tone I would not be able to even get close to with my current gear.
