Also, go to Jerzy's website, and download the setup guide pdf. And it wouldn't hurt for you to take it to a good tech and have him go thru the setup with you, if you are not confident in getting the right set up. Changing string types and brand usually always requires truss rod tweaks and saddle tweaks to get everything tickety boo.

Can you post some photos of the bridge and saddles and down the edge of the neck.
I have no issues adjusting string height with mine. It came with tapered strings, and I replaced them with non tapered and adjusted accordingly. No issues with adjusting. No issues with string height.
I think you should take it to a tech to get checked. There is no reason that non tapered strings cannot be put on and have low action. The bass for sure was not made to only use tapered strings.

I will ask a specific questions again

1 - when are you checking that the neck is straight? with strings on and in tune? or with no strings on??

2 - how much did you tighten the truss rod? have you checked to see that it is functioning?? ie: loosening it and inspect to see the relief (curve in neck) increases, and tightening it and seeing the neck get straighter.

About the saddles, there's one option that it looks like no one mentioned yet - you can just grind down the saddle on the bottom side! Jerzy actually suggested to me that I do that with the C string saddle on mine, a while back. If you have access to a grinder, belt sander, anything like that which can shave material from the bottom of the saddle, then there you go. As long as the string rests above the part of the saddle that hold's the adjustable height part, you shouldn't have any problems.

JD hasn't used exposed core strings in quite a while, now. They were made by SIT, but now it seems that you can't even get the same ones, since JD isn't having them made as a builder. I know, I tried! But what Tim at SIT told me is that they were essentially their Power Steel strings, just with an exposed core. I found I liked the normal Power Steel strings just as much :)

It sounds like to me, you are unsure how to set up the bass properly. I asked you twice how did you determine the relief on the neck was correct. You just said it was good. So, I am still unclear what you did to determine the neck was correct?

You should have taken it to a qualified tech to set up the bass, and then you would be certain of what is going on.

Base price for a 4 string Signature model is currently 8500 eur ( $11,757.) .... a 9.8/10 condition Signature model for $4500. seems like a good price.

The Oracle is such a great instrument. I love my Oracle 6 fretless. Sounds and plays incredible. Plus it's pretty light, a little over 8 pounds. This bass has the thickest ebony fingerboard that I've ever seen, at least on anything I've owned or played. But the entire neck profile is pretty thin and flat.

I still love my Excellency after 8 years; it is still my main player. If it would get stolen, I would get another one immediately!

I'm a fan of Jerzy's work, and the Prelude probably plays and sounds fantastic, but the aesthetics are also not my cup of tea I'm afraid.
