I do love me some Pressurewounds, just not sure I want to go in the roundwound direction on the Mustang...I just installed a set of the GHS Pressurewound SS light-gauge (.040-.096") strings on my MIM Mustang, coming off the bass's factory stock strings. They're in the energetic romping puppy stage of new, so I'll report back once they grow up a teensy bit.
But the GHS short scale worked?
Ahhhh yes, I didn't catch that. JMJs are through body which would add a few inches to the string length requirement.MIM Mustang = top-load only (I think...).![]()
I found the stock (Fender) strings excellent, and have not found any reason to take them off. Previously I used TIs.
I agree, my string through Musicmaster has these labella's on them and just sound killer. Feel great tooJMJ might light Chromes, and Fender may adapt their flats, but the best set of strings for a string-through-body Mustang is the La Bella flatwound set made for the instrument, the 760F-MUS: consistent, neutral good tone, good sustain, not too expensive, lasts forever without fading to lifeless thump like Chromes do.
I have a Squier classic vibe 60’s Mustang and am curious about the stock strings. Are they short scale or long scale. I had the bass professionally set up and kept the stock strings . I’m getting to the point where I need to replace them just not sure what to buy.
Is it thru-body? If so, you need strings with roughly 34" in winding length (ball end to taper/silk), which is most manufacturers' "medium scale". Or, 32" winding length for top-loading, which is "short scale" by most.
its a string through body
Any specific type of string you'd be interested in?
The factory strings on the CV 60s Mustang appear to be the "long scale" Fender 7250M (NPS rounds, 45-105) as
they don't come in "medium scale" as such. That's why part of the main body of the E string wraps around the tuner post.
The same story with the JMJ Mustang, which comes factory-equipped with
Fender 9050L flats in "long scale". Again, you can see the non-silked part of the E string wrapping around the
tuner post because they're actually too long to fit on the bass properly.
Beatle Bass strings, Put some LaBella Hofner Lights on, they fit, sound really nice and smooth, really like them.

Has anyone tried Labella's Low Tension Flats on a Mustang bass?
They have a medium scale (.42 - .96) and I wonder how much different they could be compared to the 760F MUS (.043 - .104)
Can anyone confirm that the Pyramid Gold Flat short scale strings are long enough to fit a string-through-body JMJ mustang?
