Joe Dart II - Question and community challenge

@JeremyStingray I'd bet that a Sire V3P with a Delano JMVC 4 FE/M2 set would get you close. This way you'd still get a tone control. And you'd probably still have plenty of $$ left over in budget for other stuff. The sonic blue colored V3P with white knobs would actually look pretty cool, especially if you got the Delano's in white.

I agree though that those JDII pickups sound good, but I'm no expert/audio engineer.

That's the first thing I consider in a Jazz bass. To me, they're really very different sounding, especially when you're finger plucking down at the bridge pickup. I don't get a usable sound on a 70's one that way - it doesn't feel good plucking with the strings being that taut down there and there's no meat in the sound (for me at least). On a 60's-styled Jazz that slightly more forward bridge p/u position and the resulting string tension under it changes everything.

Sorry; I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you. After reading other people's comments - and watching Lobster's demo - plus, some things that don't apply to most people here? These are my "negative" comments...
- The JD II is... not ugly, exactly; just massively "Blah". If it suddenly became the 24th bass in my herd? It would be the least photogenic one - by far. And, I own some basses that definitely would lose a beauty contest - any time, any where...
- I don't own a Jazz Bass - and don't intend to. Mainly because the body shape is... uncomfortable for me. Yeah, I know it's weird, but - I'm the guy Rick basses were made for; they fit me like a glove... I also don't care for the Fender JB pickup's foibles and weirdness. The JD II's pickups are ones that I could live with, but... I'd have to play one to see if I could live with the bass itself. Which brings me to...
- Even if I wanted another bass - which I do not - there's just no place in my herd for it. The spot for "Long Scale Bolt-on Neck" is well filled by a very nice left handed Tokai TB48 Thunderbird. And, there are no left handed JD II's...I do have an extremely nice EBMM bass, though; a 2019 4HH Stingray Special. Guess I'll just have to console myself with the one I have...
- As for the "low output" thing? I've never understood that. I have some "vintage" basses with pickups that, if they were new, they'd be thrown away because the output is so low. The pickups in my '73 Rick 4001 might have been "High Gain" @ 7.5K when they were new; now? After 50 years, they aren't 7.5K any more... the tone is still to die for, though. Doesn't bother me; that's why my 500W amp has volume controls...:cool:

so many better options out there for the money. I would take a look at used US Lakland, Sadowsky Metro, Fender, Modern Vintage , etc... EBMM is a great company, but that bas sleaves much to be desired

1. If you want it, buy it. TB's validation means nothing. For every person who thinks something is rad, you'll have 5 people running over each other to come in with "WELL, ACTUALLY......"

2. I have the first version of the Joe Dart and it's my favorite bass I've ever owned....and I've owned (and still own) a lot of basses.

In short, just do it, homie. :)

If you're in Joe Dart price territory, perhaps Sadowsky. Jazz Bass tone and feel and looks. Going only by the comments, people have + opinions on their modern and somewhat aggressive sounding pre-amps. Build quality is of course, exceptional. Just tossin' that out there.

According to @LowEndLobster 's vid, if you watch it, the JD short scale is 50 and the JDII is 100
He reads it right off the back of the headstock.
Maybe its per model year?

it looks like they're making more than 100, but the first 100 get special stuff.

from the article:
The first 100 Joe Dart II basses will also ship with a limited-edition G&G case, numbered neck plate, and a signed certificate of authenticity.

Remember the OP's last line? "I challenge the community to leave zero negative comments, replies, etc."? I've always been up for a challenge; and, he's gotten several negatives from other people, too. And, AFAIC, basses that aren't available as a lefty for me to buy? That's always a good reason for a negative comment - regardless of how many right handed people consider the thing as a gift from GOD...:cool:
