Hey everyone, hope it's cool to post this here:

Here's a little double bass/electric bass duo recording that Janek and I made in the spring. We had some extra time in my studio, so we set up a few mics, and recorded a few things for fun to tape.

After about an hour of doing some takes and listening back, we decided it was pretty cool, so we got it mastered, and released it. Here it is:

Thanks for listening!

This was before I had a bunch of work done on my bass by Zach, and also before my switch to Pirastro... this has Zyex Mediums.

Cheers,
John

(AKG brass cap 414s on DB, Neumann FET47 on electric bass cabinet, Neve 1084s, SSL4ke, ATR 1/4" at 15ips on a Studer A810 with Dolby SR for the nerds)

John, I've just got to listen to the record, and wow... What sound and good vibe you and Janek ended up coming with. It Really inspires to start doing more things on the fly and not overly producing/ overcooking things before releasing them.

I am also impressed with the mix, both upright and electric are sounding full and bassy, but with definition, clear crystal.

Your bass sounds really great, not just the bass itself but of course the tasteful playing is doing it. How do you feel nowadays after changing to Pirastro?

I am tempted to change from Spirocore Mediums to Corelli Tungsten, it sounds a bit of sacrilegious volumewise, but I find the Corellis are delivering highs more evenly, and not losing much omph actually. I've been taking them on and off before deciding.

John - old thread but I wanted to stop in and let you know that I discovered this recording. As a doubler myself, I appreciate well-recorded bass duets and this is certainly well-recorded. And performed. Nicely done!
