John Frusciante left the RHCPs?

I don't understand this thread. What do you mean he "quit the band?" What band? They are not touring, or recording right now....

what exactly did he quit? Flea is busy promoting his flea bass. Chad is playing with chickenfoot. god knows what the other two are doing. But the four of them are def not working as a band right now, or no plans to be in the near future.

Right?.....sooo.....?

In my opinion the best chili peppers album. Maybe even one of my favorite albums. Definitely reminds me of good times, some of the happiest times in my life.

it's not bashing...it's just an opinion or a guess... and considering their track record (as well as many other band's track records) I would say it's a fairly good guess. I like the Chili Peppers' Music... and un-like many others, I enjoyed One Hot Minute....I think it's a good CD.... bottom line: people are allowed to have their opinions.... and even opinions you may not agree with, can be constructive.

The stuff that they've done with John over the last 8 or 9 years has been much more song oriented. As much as we all love Flea, you've got to admit it was John who has really brought the song writting to the fore ground of the band. Without him.....I don't know.

Although I`ll agree that John seemed to bring structure, he also seemed to make the songs... well... boring. Ever since By the Way their songs have gotten more and more structured, as well as more and more boring. IMHO of course.

When I say RHCP is a brand, I mean that they do write songs with a certain ''esthetic'' that has to fit the image and mood of RHCP, and most important the songs have to please the fans. This kind of leads them to be stuck in a certain sound as long as they are using the name, the label.

That band having such great musicians, it would be great to see them doing more experimental stuff, which they did, by participating in The mars volta and by various jams you can see on the internet.

Maybe JF has left to pursue solo projects, to me that's a good thing.

Oh yeah, now I see what you meant. I agree that they always sound that kind of same, it doesn't take me 3 seconds to notice if it's them playing. And I too would like to see them do more experimental stuff also. I like the fact that I can't hear any RHCP kind of sound on Frusciantes solo albums, it's totally different and more of experimental I'd say.

I got a bit excited when I saw this because for whatever reason I was thinking that John was the lead singer/rapper/guy coughing up hairballs over cool music but that's Anthony...

Ah well, maybe RHCP will find a real lead man. I can respect Antony's energy but not his ability. Anyway, It does suck that John left, I really dug his playing in their songs. He seemed like a perfect fit for the band. I can't think of who would replace him but then again I'm not too up on funk-rock guitarists.

Flea is (was?) also taking music classes at USC and is (was?) working with Thom Yorke as part of the backing band for his solo material. The videos from their LA concert were really good, if you're into Thom Yorke/Radiohead.

In any event, the band planned to go back into the studio and start work on a new album that was to be released in 2010. THAT'S what he's quitting.

As much as I don't care for Anthony Keidis (guy can't seem to sing consistently live for the life of him), it really wouldn't be the Chilis without his Mike Patton/Eek-A-Mouse wannabe rap-singing. And I gotta admit his silly lyrics are very amusing. Such as:

Fox hole love
Pie in your face
Livin' in and out
Of a big fat suitcase

John was the second coming of Hillel and took the band back in the direction they would've eventually went it should he not have OD'ed, the poor bastard. Dave was an experiment, but I prefer him with Jane's, one of my fave bands of all time. The Peppers changed the way I thought about music, life...when I heard Mother's Milk...well, I didn't know basses could do those things, I though you just chugged along with 16th notes for most songs. I heard they were on hiatus, but as much as I dig 'em, they should just go into retirement, the Rolling Stones do it every few years or so. Let 'em all do supergroups like Chad's doing, that'd be fun just coming up with the possible combinations...

I could see this being the end for the Chili Peppers. Or at least, the beginning of the end.

It feels like the whole white rap/funk genre has kind of played itself out, not to mention, with the depressed economy people are getting into a much more "sober" frame of mind and the whole Chili's socks-on-your-wang approach seems irrelevant to say the least. (Which isn't to say I don't like their music... just doesn't seem like their whole vibe is really in tune with the times).

On top of all that, it seems like Chad Smith is really happy doing the Chickenfoot thing and Flea has a bunch of different irons in the fire... so the only guy who really has a lot to lose if RHCP goes away is Anthony.
