Jon Reshard, the Next Jaco??

Wow, I kinda regret making this topic now. It just seemed to bring out the worst in people, I don't know why but it did. Maybe it was the fact that I compared this kid to a Bass god, or maybe its just that people jump on any opprotunity to argue about the most asinine topics. Although only a few people IMO really brought this thread down (Im not going to say names, you know who you are), They really created a negative aura that really ruined this thread again IMO. If people will continue to call eachother names, create asinine arguments, and just post plain dumb crap. I'll have no choice but to just delete this thread. Peace

NOT!
At least this thread gave me one more chance to plug Sean Malone. (I really believe he disearves it!)
And it was good to spot some jealousy, some interesting facts... h*ll... don't regret it!
And if you think that it brought the worst of ppl... it's not your fault that 'people' have a bad part and tend to show it.

Rock On! :bassist:

Being a bit dramatic, aren't we? This has not been a bad thread at all. people have expressed their opinions which is the whole point of a public forum such as this. As far as there being asinine topics, one could easily say the opening topic was the most asinine, which it is, but what developed was so much better. Read the whole thread again and see if you can't learn something.;)

As for Sean Malone, I read in the "Bassists of death" that:

...

Dunno which one of you is right... [/B]

I asked Sean about his right hand tecnique before writing that and he told me that he only used 2 fingers. It also looks that way on his videos so I have no doubts that it is the truth.

He does however use a light touch and thumbtrailing which is pretty close to Gary Willis but lots of bassplayers do that so its no big deal.

Guys,

I've known Jon for a long time and let me start
by saying that the mp3 clip is very old that is almost 4 years ago. I'll admit he sounds a lot like Vic but that is because he's know Vic since he was a Kid... You have to hear him now I heard
some of the stuff off of his new CD ... he is insane and will smoke a lot of popular players
out there now ...he's really a nice kid and couldn't care less about who is better than who
I caught one of the Clinics that he does with Tony Royster and I was amazed...grant it there is only one jaco...one stanley ... one Victor... but this guy is definitely one of the cats...

Well to be honest with everyone. I think Jon is pretty good. Of course we all know everyone who is a bassist is jealous in some way. Whether jealous about his technique, his fame, his hair (Vic wannaba), his equipment; doesn't matter. He started at 5 and is 17 years old; thats twelve years. But just like Vic, he will be soon forgotten because if he can play like Vic now whatelse can he do. The same thing he did and the same thing Vic did. Its not impreesive. At first it is but its the same thing in the same key or different speed or rythym. So what if he can play as fast as light or as slow as time, I mean its not like he reinvented the wheel. He is just a Vic wannabe. He looks like it and sounds like it and gets the Victor Wooten bass. But I'm actually surprised that he doesn't have a hair tie around his neck. I thought that would be the first thing he would have done. But I don't care who is his friend and if he is one of the cats, but he will get old quickly because all he learned was Vic and Jaco. Every bass player here is influenced by them by knew that in order to be that well you have to be original. Vic and Jaco were and they are credited for it. What i heard was not original, Through his clip I heard sinister minister being played and a bunch of Vics licks (stuff I've already heard). Hey Denzal824, music is not about "smoking" other popular players or beating them, you think Vic would say that. Much respect for Jon though.
