I've owned some Joyo pedals and while I've had a few fail (cheap parts) they all sounded great. I'm not complaining: for the price it's surprising there was anything inside the box. I'm tempted to seek this out and buy one just because.

There's no reason it needs to be starved-plate with a 24V supply, but... listening to a couple youtube videos it sure sounds like one. : )

I'd buy one just for kicks (got to be more fun than that "200W" TC) but that floor wart is a real deal-killer.

The orange "micro" amps have external power supplies as well. I assume the external PS is just byproduct of the small form factor. The joyo seems like it would be a decent practice amp.

I bought the Joyo clone for a Fender guitar amp a year or so ago. Returned it the same day. Despite all the youtube videos raving about it, it just didn't sound good. They have several iterations of these little amps to simulate popular guitar amps, like the Vox, Fender, Marshall, etc. I believe the circuitry is all the same but just voiced differently. So, I'm guessing they applied the same circuit to a bass amp model and called it good.

fwiw: I ended up getting a used Orange Micro Dark and, Holy Eff, that thing sounds good; even with the gain turned down to a clean tone.

It was featured in a Bass Magazine article back in August. I reached out to the company to find out if it will work in my home studio. I do not own a cabinet, and would rather not get one right now. My most common use case would be to run from the amp into the 1/4 input on my audio interface (Apogee Element). But... the amp does not have a DI.

I asked the company's tech support if/how it would work direct into the audio interface and without a cabinet. Their response was to try the effects output jack.

I understand the best source of information is the manufacturer, but I thought I would try TB as well, since there are more than a few experts (including those who work for amp companies).

Any ideas? I figured the standard speaker output might not be good - maybe the headphone output, or the effects output mentioned??

I bought a Joyo Bantamp Badass Bass head from Pitbull Audio a couple of months ago. I like it a lot. It has a lot of punch and is plenty loud for small venues and great for practice. At the last gig, I played through a GK cab in a small bar and it had enough oomph and was only cranked 2/3. Because of its "lunch box" size, it is easy to unload and pack up. At home, I have it going through a dead combo amp with two 12-inch speakers and it performs well. I also like the fact that the cabinet is well vented to prevent any sort of heat build-up. I believe a lot of these mini-amps get a bad rap because people do the wrong things with them like use instrument cable instead of a quality speaker cable when hooking them up, tossing them in backpacks and then expecting everything to work perfectly and leaving the power supplies constantly on.

Thanks for the feedback - nice to hear from someone who owns one!! I would most likely be using in a home studio setting, with a cable from the Effects Send to the audio interface.

I've been plunking away with this little amp for a year and it now drives a mid-1990s Fender BSR15 cabinet; mostly at home. It does it pretty well in a 1500 square foot room. I really like the compressor when practicing on my 5-string as it helps "unmuddy" the B string (Rotosound). So far, I have no issues or complaints as it does what I've asked reliably.
