Jule Amps Monique Part III

You can always pickup a cheap used power amp. I have used several with Monique and there is no tonal difference. Except when pairing Monique with a DSP equiped amp might take some tweaking, even with the DSP off on my Crown it seems to have some affect on the tone in the low end. Must still have some sort of filters that rob it a little. The Carvin DCM2000, Crest, and QSC do not affect the tone at all and I am able to rum 2 ohms which is my preference when possible. Not sure if the Demeter is able to run at 2 ohms.

That is good to hear and is definitely a viable option. I think sometimes we are so concerned about thinking of the smallest package possible, Downsizing, etc., that we forget about the old days and the obvious. Ha ha! Thanks guys.

By the way is there any difference in sound between the rackmounted, the dove cage and bamboo Other than aesthetics? Thx.

Btw, I was referring to the crest as a viable option. Too slow to post! Lol!

The reason I got my Minnie to accompany my Monique was that it's the smallest footprint (i.e. exactly the same size as Monique) and the most powerful thing I could find on the market. Sure there are cheaper or more powerful units out there, but I wanted the loudest thing I could get that would fit in the same bag as Monique. My EA Micro is the perfect size but it's not as powerful as the Minnie. I think having a rackmount Monique opens a lot of doors power amp wise. I wouldn't imagine there would be any kind of tone difference with different power amps unless you're going from an all tube power section to class D or something....

I didn't really notice a difference between the power section of the 400+ and the Carvin DCM2000. The D-Monique is great for an all in one package. Some say it's pricy but, no more than any of the other amps. The TC Blackout is going to run you much more and the Mesa Titan and other big amps are going to be in the same area. If I didn't own the rackmount I would have a Demter to match the bird cage for sure.

My guess is that you would get adequate results, but it might not let you fully appreciate what Monique brings to the table. I'm not sure about the Streamliner 900, but I know that on all of the other Genz-Benz heads I've owned (and on the ones we tested), the "tube amp emulation" slash limiter circuit is located downstream of the power amp in, and cannot be bypassed.

So, it'll probably sound quite nice, but I am suspecting that it will still have some of that Genz-Benz coloration built in.

That said, I've been quite happy with Monique into my SM 12.0 and 9.2 (Berg cabs). Probably not all Monique could deliver, but great on an absolute scale.

I've been more than happy with my sound (G&L L2500 -> Acoustic Image Clarus going into an Epifani UL2-112) and receive compliments on my tone almost every time, but have become really interested in trying out this Jule Monique (presumably I'd go with the De-Monique.

I do however like the high impedance of the Clarus because I also double with an upright bass. Furthermore I can't find the EQ frequencies for the EQ.

Is there more info (technical specs) available on these subjects?

If someone has info on the input impedance or at least experience with the performance of the Jule Monique for Double Bass I'd be really happy.
At this moment I'm looking to switch to a new amplifier this summer and have the following amps in mind:
  • Glockenklang Bass Art Classic Top
  • Hevos 800D
  • Jule De-Monique
  • Aguilar DB750/751

There are several different sounds in that list, but mostly I'm looking for natural/clean sound with more punch than my current amp (Acoustic Image) can deliver.

Thanks for all of the input! I'm planning on making my purchase this week as soon as I can decide if I want the Dove cage or rack mount. I'm torn!!! The logical move for me is to get the rackmount since I always gig with my gear, never a backline, so portability is not an issue. But that Dove Cage is sooo damn slick looking!

Time to list some gear in the classifieds. First item listed... my trusty Avalon U5!

Thanks again!

Hey you're not helping me! Lol! It is super sexy to look at! But I'm trying to convince myself to go the more practical route for my needs and purchase the rackmount.

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to ship once you place an order?

Thanks.

Yep - I had to do the same thing.

My order for a rackmount Monique (not De-Monique) was placed on March 14, and Jule has told me that he should be able to ship it out in the third week of April.

:hyper:

I have told him not rush, though, and if it needs to be later, that's fine - as long as she's perfect when she arrives. ;)

5 meg input impedance.

Well I'm all in! Just placed my order for the rackmount Monique! Can't wait to take her out on her first date! Whoo hoo!

Congrats!:hyper:

I have the rack version and the dove cage (yes, I am nuts!:D)

The dove cage is beautiful and super cool looking and the rack version looks.... Well, like a rack mount amp.:p

Personally, my rack Monique gets all the gigs and rehearsals lately. Just so easy to drag my single 4U rack around. It is light (Monique and a light Crest power amp in the rack) and easier than dragging the dove cage AND my 3U rack (with Crown power amp) out.

The rack version is the most functional for me, but the dove cage and bamboo versions are great looking. To each their own!:bassist:
