Jimmy is getting easier to slap around now. He is likely only one rant away from being banished for life.:spit::smug::D

Honestly, 90% of gigs I have done over the last 25+ years have been with Ampeg. I like playing with new stuff, but always seem to end up with a 85lb boat anchor in my arsenal.:bassist:

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger?

LMAOF!!! I'm honestly having a hard time picturing that.
You've learned quite a bit about playing the moderated forum game since the cowboy anarchy days at alt.guitar.bass.
Ya, that one's really picked up some steam over the last week or two. You should check it out. Everyone hates everyone there now ;)

My rackmount Monique came today! After only about an hour of play time I am thoroughly impressed. Full yet very clear and articulate. The Sensitivity control can make notes Explode off the fretboard. I've got some NOS 6SL7 tubes, but can't imagine it getting much better. I'm sure curiosity will get the best of me eventually.

I thought and said the same thing a few pages back.
It is perfect just the way it is!

Oh, I'm sorry...I seem to have stumbled onto the alt.philosophers.dead forum. Monique, my hot nurse with the nice SKB rack, and I will go back to playing with her stock Chinese tubes now--why mess with perfection?

I knew for sure that with all you creative folk something like this was coming. ;)

For the tube rollers out there, did you know you do not have to remove the back panel of the Monique Rack Mount to get access to the tubes through the top? Just remove the four black screws on the sides of the top, and the two silver-ish screws in the top. Then it slides out of the way easily.

If you experience any mid to high frequency noise with non-metallic based NOS tubes that you want to try, just get yourself metal tape to wrap that plastic/phenolic base. Trim it nicely with a sharp knife. Applies to any octal tube other than output tubes. Do not do it on output tubes. Best is tinned steel tape from an electronic equipment supply (expensive) but the heavy aluminum stuff for air conditioning ducts works too. Copper tape looks cool.

The "tube holder" clamps on Monique are less to hold the tube in place and primarily to make electrical contact between the chassis and that tube base.

The above is a very small detail that is unnecessary in most cases, but it can be significant with some tubes and gear. Nice thing for B-15s too. It is a trick from the audiophile world.

I didn't even know that people were considering removing the back panel. The first time through I did have to loosen those back panel screws just a touch to get clearance to slide the top out...turns out that one of the wires was up against the front edge and wasn't allowing the top to fully slide. I bent the wire down a little bit for clearance and it's been fine since.

I had a bent wire but I just think my shrink was being polite.
