Jule Amps Monique

Ya, that one's really picked up some steam over the last week or two. You should check it out. Everyone hates everyone there now ;)

I DID check that discussion group out. NO thank-you. Between the ranting lunatic who seems terribly upset for no reason, to the pretentious a******s who decide who is "actually" a bassist(apparently not me, who knew?!), I'm more than happy with Talkbass :)

Ain't it fun!

For you recent Monique folk, I will send along a set of the new Tung Sol tubes to add to your pallet if you wish.

I like the Tung Sols too, but my opinion is not the one that really matters.

And when you have that top cover off the Rack Mount Monique, check for a white capacitor on the "LOW" pot. (Very easy to see. Red arrow on the attached picture.) If it is any other color, let us know.

My rackmount Monique came today! After only about an hour of play time I am thoroughly impressed. Full yet very clear and articulate. The Sensitivity control can make notes Explode off the fretboard. I've got some NOS 6SL7 tubes, but can't imagine it getting much better. I'm sure curiosity will get the best of me eventually.

What's up with the cap on the Low control, Jule?

If it isn't white, I'd like to know. As you noted previously, some caps have changed to bright red, some to black. It is matter of sourcing the best part going forward. Monique Rack 100 is approaching, and I expect that there will still be sourcing issues to maintain a consistent experience. There wouldn't be if we didn't check. ;)

Caps are as I remember cute girls in High School. At first I thought they all pretty much had the same specifications, but then I found some had their own car too.

Innnnteeerrresting.

The next time I'm in for a tube alteration, I'll let you know what's up. :)

Tonight's recording variant will be using my bass' pickups in series mode, input padded back 4db (Sensitivity pushed in), and a bit more high frequency in my sound.

In series, my bass has a much bigger sound, with a bit of sacrifice in the low end and upper extension, but a bump in the low mid area.

What is it you dig about the Tung Sols vs ______? With my cabinet/poweramp change coming up I am doing as much research as I can into the itty bitty things. :ninja: It is now a game of inches...well...more so then before :D

Yes, it is that game of inches. . . vs Shuguang, and EH. Inches. I must work with what is currently in production, so I leave the NOS to y'all. I would not have tried the Tung Sols if I hadn't received some bad Shuguangs. Prior to the one batch they were all good. But still.

It is visually obvious that the Tung Sols are very well made. That by itself is important to us. I've only had them a few days. Gain is consistent and good. Sound good.

They are being live tested in L.A. right now, and locally.

People use that term so often. Did you know Frederic Nietzsche died of syphilis? Lol

No he didn't. Not only was his life's work misrepresented by the way his sister edited and published his work, and later by the Nazis and the scholars who based their opinions on these bastardized writings or very little at all other than reputation, but even his character and death were made out to be sordid and scandalous. In fact he did not die of syphilis, nor was he diagnosed with it when alive, though his doctors probably suspected this was the diagnosis for his illness.

Back to the lovely Monique...

+1 That's a lot of hand wiring - go Jule!

Thank you.

If any of you know of someone in the SC area who is insanely meticulous and detailed, ignorant of what inhaling lead fumes does to us, and knows how to do mil. spec. hand wiring, send them on.

And incense.

Well, I did a bit of rolling with the NOS 6SL7GTs I have which consist of RCA 6SL7GT clear glass, RCA 6SL7GT grey glass and RCA jan grey glass, Tung-Sol brown base, and Sylvania Jan CHS 6SL7WGT. All are from 50's and early 60's. The winners, so far, are the RCA clear glass in V1 (gain) & RCA grey glass in V2 (tonestack). However, in a full band setting, I'm not sure the difference between these and stock tubes would be noticable. It's definitely a bit clearer and airier with the NOS. The Tung-Sol also sounds really nice in V2. I don't have any 12au7 or EZ81 rectifier to try so no opinion on changing those. I also don't believe I have "Golden Ears", possibly far from it!:hmm:

Just played a gig with the Monique at talking volume...A) it was no fun, but B) I was stunned at how it shrank the huge tone down. Definitely not as huge sounding (obviously) but all the character and clarity remained in tact even at such a low line level volume. Good stuff. The only thing that would make the Monique even more awesome is if it came with the STM900 or TH500's power unit so I could just take a bamboo Monique and a cab and be done with it! :crying:

I have the best customers in the world. I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity.

Is anybody else doing the whole sideman thing and hating it when they have to use a backline now? I know I am lol. I'm trying to figure out a way to work a Bamboo monique into a tiny hit and run rig...no luck yet, but I'm working on it :ninja:. I wish I had the know-how to really fidget :( Anyway...here's another pic of the Rack Monique at yet another gig with her rig guardians Na-na and Kaphwan. :D (and our percussionist's unsightly elbow :rollno: )

yep. started bringing my Monique (metal) around on fly dates with me in it's little road case but I think just from carrying it around at so many airports with it bangin around in it's case the 6SL7s developed some serious microphonics and it just won't stop ringing now. Keep it at home! haha

I haven't gigged mine through a lot of airports but perhaps that pair where going to get microphonic.
Some NOS JANs which were made to take that hard banked turn past the mushroom cloud might help. Those that stood up to all that head flipping :) in B-15/18 can't be that fragile.:)
I'm using old ones because my new ones got sick.
Then the rolling addiction started and after 12 steps of rolling I'm clean. :)
