Double Bass Just bought a used Engelhardt S1

Do you know how old this bass is? "S-1" does not sound right - that would be Kay's numbering and the blonde version would be an S-9. Moreover, the Kay "S" series basses had ebony, not rosewood boards. Engelhardt labels these as "ES-1" and "ES-9". And they have ebony,m not rosewood, boards. They now also make gamba shapes, "EG-1" and "EG-9".

Can't tell for sure, but maybe you have an early Engelhardt that was put together from surplus Kay parts after Engelhardt-Link took over Kay's double bass and cello business in 1970.
