I don't know if this is the right spot for this post but...
I just bought an X2 wireless (stomp box version) and love it. I was going to post a thread asking which is best but did a search instead. The X2 was what was recommended in a bunch of posts so thats what I bought. I want to say thank you to everyone here. TB has so much info, great people, and a friendly atmosphere, saved me from making a bad choice (nady) Thanks...

I have only had mine for a week...so far it's transparent sound wise with no dropouts etc... My band mates didn't notice i was wireless and only noticed after I asked about my tone...said as always "ya sound good"...I haven't gigged with it yet but from everything I've read (a lot) it's a non-issue. really enjoying being off the cord.

I have had mine about 3 months and love it tone wise. Guitar player in my band bought one too and loves it. We have both had some issues. His cheap cord died after about 3 weeks and he had to upgrade to the better quality one. I am still using the original. The big problem I am having is that the range on this thing is horrible. I was on a big stage last week and it dropped out when I moved to the other side of the drum kit. One of the reasons I bought the wireless was to be able to go out into the crowd and to be able to listen to the band mix during soundcheck. This is not possible with my X2.

Does anybody know what is causing this or if there is anything I can do? The guitar player does not have these issues and he has the same unit (stompbox). He gets great range and he keeps his transmitter in his pants pocket where I where mine on my strap...

But even with the short range I love the wireless. No attachment and no cords to step on even if I stay in small area is priceless...

I have the rackmount version, and I've experienced no loss of signal even when 100 feet or so away, nor when I moved from one side of the stage to another. I have noticed that the transmitter tends to eat batteries - I always have an extra on hand just in case, and make sure I check the meter before and during sets to ensure I don't go "dead" during a set.

I love mine ... no wires, I can go out in front of the stage during soundcheck, etc. Best wireless I've ever used (I previously had a Samson Airline).

Congrats! I got my XDS Plus last month and I love it........it actually sounds better than a cable, and here's how I found out......

I was playing only my 3rd gig with the X2, and the cheap cable that comes with it crapped out on me.....during a gig. I reached down and plugged in the cable that I always have ready as a "safety net", and kept on playing the set........but I immediately noticed less high end and less gain, and so did the FOH engineer, as we talked about it after the set.

Do yourself a huge favor right now. Get in touch with Butch at Bayou Cables and order a replacement cable. The stock cable is going to leave you stranded, and why should you have to pay X2 $50 for the "upgrade" cable? They should include the top quality cable with every unit! Other than this obvious corner cutting move on the part of X2, I love the unit, and would highly recommend it.

That being said, my highest recommendation goes to Butch at Bayou.......I called him and explained the situation, and he took care of me right away! :cool:

You'll find many X2 owners will concur. Only dropouts I've had are when the stage is too high and I'm in the audience area with line of sight cut, or behind some gargantuan Bollywood movie hide and seek dance sequence pillar.

I mount mine exposed on the back of my strap and even when walking away from the receiver with the back of my strap in direct line to my pedal board, it drops out after about 15-20 feet. My guitar player keeps his in his back pocket and doesn't have any issues not matter where he roams. The only thing I haven't tried is to take it off my pedal board and mount it to my rack. I haven't done this in fear that my rack is futher away behind me on a big stage and if I move five feet I may drop out. At least with it on my board, I know I get 15-20 feet.

So, i don't think it is a line of sight issue as I have heard that before. The cable would not effect the reception, would it? Am I missing something there? Cause I will try it if it makes a difference...

Well, if your Guitarist does not seem to have a problem, then I would suggest borrowing his for testing purposes.

Take his cable, use it, see if you still get drop outs.
Take his transmitter, set it to your channels, see if you still get drop outs.
Set your transmitter to his channels, see if you still get drop outs.
Take his receiver, see if you still get drop outs.

By useing one component of a known working system at a time, you might be able to isolate just where your unit is not funtioning correctly.

On your pedal board, you don't get much elevation, and you can easily develop line of sight issues with it once you hop off stage. Try putting it in your rack and see how that works out. I can easily get 50 feet with my wireless if the receiver is elevated and the transmitter strapped to my strap.
