Just bought an X2 wireless...

Heh... on a "limited" basis. I'm now in law school and preparing to record in the studio with my band for our album. :smug:

There goes my TB talk-time dominance. :bawl:

:(

Ha. Well at least those are two things very dominant and bright in your future. I sit in a Newspaper lab alternating between writing my stories like a good little Bee, or wasting my time on TalkBass, like I prefer to do.

I was playing an outdoor gig Saturday. I went to the back of the tents to give a listen and when the audience got between me an the RX, it dropped out. i.e. While I was walking up the side I was ok.

But that was probably 50'. The RX was on top of my amp, not on the ground, and the TX was on the strap behind me.

I just got mine 2day and hooked up in my garage and walked out to the street (maybe 40 ft) and it dropped. I tried the reciever on top of my amp, beside my amp and behind my amp (70's SVT). Surprisingly behind it seemed to work best, but it still dropped out. I'm going to try it 2nite at a gig so we'll see what happens. One thing I will mention is I'm using an AC adapter for the reciever. Also I live very close to a radio staion tower. It sounds great but if thats all it can do as far as range, this will be going back to MF.

Which version? Stomp, rack, or the new pro?

I've had mine for at least a couple of months and have only been able to use it for 1 hour so far. First, the cord went bad before I could even get it to the gig. Got a replacement. Played a one hour set and it started distorting. Called Line 6 and they gave me an RMA number to send it back. A brand new unit arrived a couple of days ago. I re-installed in the rack and while I was connecting my bass it started making intermittent and very loud snapping noises through the amp. I turned off the transmitter. Still made the noises. Called Line 6 and got another RMA. I'm waiting for UPS to pick it up.

The Good: Line 6 customer service didn't hesitate to take the return.

The Bad: Don't know if I can ever rely on this piece of gear.

The stomp. Used it last nite. Could only get about 15 feet away before it dropped. Then in the middle of a song it just went completely out. This thing has killer sound, but its range and reliability make it a loser in my opinion. If they would upgrade the range, maybe a cast aluminum enclosure (not sure how this would afect transmission, being metal) and use a standard 1/4" plug they might have an unbeatable combination. And @ $300 seems a little overpriced (as are all wireless devices are IMHO).
I'm sending this one back to MF and going back to the same cable that I made myself and have been using for the last 3 years.

All - I just bought an X2 RDS + and used it on 2 gigs this weekend. Overall, it's a great unit, but I did notice something that concerns me.

I noticed brief drop outs, kind of like a short, off and on sound, every so often. Not enough to be really noticeable, but I noticed it, momentarily thought something was wrong with the baas or amp, but it cleared up immediately. I would say this happened 4 or 5 times a night. I was no more than 10' away from the base unit and nothing was between me and it.

After reading all the positive reviews here, I didn't expect to have this kind of a problem. So, do you all think something is wrong with the unit and it should be sent back / exchanged, or is this typical?

Thanks!

Definitely not typical in my experience. I have to go a long way from the unit to get dropouts. I am using the stompbox version. I would expect the rack version to be *better*.

Did you try a different channel?

I can't help but wonder if these quickie drop outs are actually related to the cheap stock cable beginning to fail..........my stock cable only lasted a couple of gigs.......and when it failed, it was very noisy, cracking, popping, etc.......but who knows if maybe the quick drop outs are the early warning signs?

Any way you look at it, go ahead and get a real cable ASAP, you're gonna need it.

I just bought the XDS Plus and so far I'm very happy with it.
A couple of thoughts:
-the big box stores price of $399 is high......Washington music has a regular price of $349
-the stock cable is made by Hosa and is very cheesy but it is the same cable sennheiser uses and there are quite a few companies making better replacement cables...they gave me one made by Mogami
-sometime during this summer X2 was having a problem with transmitter packs failing and they sent a supply of replacements to the dealers (or at least washington music). To be proactive, washington music has been swapping the transmitter packs in each unit with the new replacement to avoid any problems) Mine works fine but it was one of the new transmitter packs.
-sound quality is fantastic...really good. Haven't heard any glitches.
-this thing is simple to use...a real no brainer! (My last wireless was a shure ULX pro and it was definitely more complicated to use...changing basses involved tweeking the gain on the transmitter pack)
-battery life is fantastic.....I put a new duracell in and played 2 gigs and my battery meter still shows slightly less than half left. (I do shut off the transmitter pack between sets)
-I have only played 2 gigs so far but I'm very pleased.
-The range for the XDS plus is 200 feet and the rackmount is 300 feet. I tested mine and it did well over 200 feet without line of sight and with significant obstructions. If it works anything like my 900 Mhz cordless phone, that doesn't surprise me.

And to answer my own question from earlier in this thread........both transmitter pack and receiver say made in the USA. Rob at Washington music said it is one of the few things he sells that still is.
