Ok, I'm new to instruments, and my 13 y/o daughter wants to learn to play the bass. I bought her one online, and then she tells me she needs an amp, preferably one that allows her to hook her phone into so she can play along with songs. What do I buy? I'm having trouble understanding what this is lol Can someone point me to a link of what she needs?

...and then she'll need a gig bag, a tuner, some extra strings, an extension cabinet for her amp, some new outfits for gigging, yada yada.......

This should do fine as a practice amp. I have one. Sounds great, and has a line in for practice with a phone/ipod. And a headphone jack. Fun!

Thanks for the warm welcome! Considering this is her fifth instrument, the budget is a little tighter. (She has taught herself to play guitar, violin, piano and plays the flute and clarinet in high school band) so same brand as the link above, lower watt would be cheaper and exactly what she needs?
lots of good amps that would be perfect. I recommend the Fender rumble combo, or the Orange Crush Bass 50.
Tell us what you'd like to spend and then we can make a better recommendation.
Should be correct, especially if she only plans to practice with it. The Fender Rumble 20 (25?) is a great amp, with plenty of power for annoying the family (and possibly neighbors!). I think it has an input jack for a phone as well, but I could be mistaken. Also, look used for old Peavey stuff if she decides she wants something bigger.
What kind of budget are we talking here?

I just don't want to buy something that isnt what she asked for. Can you hook phones up to all amps to play along with songs?
I feel like an idiot not realizing an amp was even needed. Grace looked at me like I was horribly clueless, which I am. Thank you guys so much for pointing me in the right direction! I just ordered the Fender Rumble 25 combo amp. Figured it was better for my wallet, and hopefully this will do the trick for my beginner rock band wannabe kiddo. I'm all for supporting her in her pursuits, and I hope I made the right selection for her. Christmas time, if she's still into it and needs something better, I'll spoil her more. 
It seems every year I'm spending more and more on her musical pursuits as she ages and her tastes change.
As for the outfits and gig attire, she's already set lol

Welcome to TB. And good luck to your daughter. 15 years ago I wanted to teach my 12 yo daughter to play guitar but she said she'd prefer to learn to play bass instead. So I found a great deal on a new Highway 1 Jazz bass, then drove 500 miles round trip to pick up a Fender Bassman 10 combo. Then she never picked up the bass once, never showed any more interest in learning to play. And that was the beginning of my bass playing career. It was the kick in the butt I needed to get back into playing.

I have one of those, a v1, as my practice amp. It is surprising how "Ampegy" it sounds at living room volume!
