Just can't like Warwick I guess...

Btw. have you noticed that warwicks usually have really low action in the shops? I mean Fenders etc. usually have medium or medium/high action, but warwicks tend to have the strings almost rubbingg the frets. makes it feel easier to play but in my opinion, doesn't sound good.

I think that fenders feel very stiff in the stores! Thats what hurts my fingers! I think only a few basses feel good in stores new! Warwicks spectors feel ok too! But fenders feel horrible! Now every once in awhile i will grab a used one and like it but over all i think they feel very stiff!
Re Low Action: my experience was the exact opposite;the Thumb Bolt On that I bought in Nov.had the strings way up high,but I knew that was a simple matter of adjustment and now I have the action just like I want it and it plays very well.
Yup, I don't like the standard fender set-up either. It kills fingers. I just pointed out that action thing because most people try basses pretty briefly if they don't like it right away. And I've heard many complaints about warwick slap tones because people don't consider it to be dynamic enough and I know that some of that problem can be fixed by raising the action a bit, giving the instrument more control over dynamics and more of that DWANGGG when slapped.

my G&L had stiff action that just couldn't be cured.

I might just be a strange funk bass player i like my strings all the way down but not fretting! Thats the cool thing about my old corvette pro-line is i can set the action at the head and the bridge! Then i use small strings! But who ever setts up fenders before they leave the shop should be shot!
What exactly do you mean by "Stiff" action?
I've never picked up ANY bass in a store that was set up the way I like. Music stores have a nasty habit of just shoving basses onto the shelves without having the techs give them a once over. When I'm seriously interested in a bass I make the store put my brand and guage of strings on it and set it up the way I like it (ie- almost no neck relief, medium-low action). If they don't want to do that, I won't buy from them. I've played loads of Fenders, Warwicks, G&Ls, Spectors, whatever that were horribly set up. That being said my jazz bass is set up and plays beautifully. No neck relief and low action (2mm at 12th) and not a buzz or click in sight (and I play pretty hard). Setups in stores are not indicative of the quality of the instrument.
Now Warwicks: Their necks feel like rough-cut 2x4's to me and I really don't like that compressed mid-scooped sound that comes from really dense woods. Give me the unrefined midrange bark of a fender jazz bass any day (or the beautifully defined sound of a Spector).

Kind of interesting how a Warwick thread turned into a Spector thread.
Let me tell you all something about Spectors: THEY ALL SUCK! Don't buy one! Don't play one! Don't even THINK about it! They're horrible!!! Stay FAR away!
