Just can't like Warwick I guess...

To answer the question of the other Warwick thread "What is your favorite Warwick"? My answer is the Warwick I didn't buy!!! I stated my answer here because I didn't want to ruin their little fun!!!
But, to be fair, Warwicks from th early 90's had much better quality when they were turning out much fewer basses. Nowadays they are more concerned about quantity!!! I'll stick to my Spectors thank you! :D

what is it with Spector owners that makes them so anti-Warwick?
do they envy the Wenge and brass frets in Warwick basses?
are they thinking Warwick stole the NS body shape? that would be weired cos I never heard Fender people ranting about how Sadowsky and Lull and a bunch of others, copied the body shape of the Jazz and Precision bass.

I am a Warwick owner myself. I never played nor seen in person a Spector bass and if to say the truth I really want to try one.
and I'll tell you something, if it's to my liking I might own both a Spector and a Warwick simultaneously, there is nothing wrong in that for sure, you should own what does the job for you and not what other people love or hate.
if the Spector surpasses my Warwick I might sell my 'Wick and get a Spector, the same goes for any bass I'll find that will feel better 'to me' than my Warwick, I don't care for sticking with firms, I stick with a bass because its the most suitable one for my needs, thats why I don't understand why Spectorheads on this board can't live with the existence of Warwick.

As I stated before, Warwick (MADE) quality basses. If you compared the sound, feel and construction quality to a Warwick made in '91 it will blow away a '01 Warwick. As I said, Warwick were turning out much, much fewer basses then. I believe they may have more models now then basses then. If you like your Warwick, fine. This thread started out as an "anti Warwick" thread to begin with. Also, I have chosen not to respond to the "pro" Warwick thread to be fair to Warwick fans.
I'll give Warwick this much, they've been good marketers. They made sure that every teenie lovin' (with the exceptions) pop/rap core band's bass player endorses Warwick. Since then, they've been selling in droves.

I have a '99 Dolphin Pro I 4 string (Boire Rosewood Body) and a '99 Streamer Stage II 5 sting. Both are of the highest quality in every sense. I have previously owned Thumb NT 4, 5, and 6 strings, and found the same is true.

IMO, your statement does not hold up, unless perhaps you are talking about the lower priced instruments. If you don't like the Warwick brand, then that's another thing I suppose. I prefer my Warwicks in every case except for authentic blues, then I use my Roscoe Beck 5 or my '62 or '57 RI P basses. The Warwicks are absolutly killer for classic rock.

Have you ever owned one of the high end models?

Andy

A buddy of mine owns a Thumb neck through from the early 90's (a very good Warwick) which sounds and is built of better quality than another buddy of mines (which he just sold) 2001 Thumb neck through. BTW, he then bought a Spector.
I will say that the quality of the current upper end Warwicks are definitely better than the entry models. They just don't seem to make basses that are worthy of a $3000 and up list price anymore.
Again, this thread was intended for those who feel that Warwicks are perhaps overrated in todays market (and apparently I'm not alone, I didn't even start this thread).
But most important of all, if you really love your instruments and feel they are priced appropriately then it doesn't matter what anyone including myself thinks!

yet again mr. dead speaks the truth that is all so many times missed on talkbass.
there is truly no reason to start a flame about a bass, if you like it and someone else doesn't so friggin what. i like the winter and could give a rats arse if any of you else do or don't.

i love the tone of a RIC, but i still giggle at all those people that bought one because geddy played one, ignorant to the fact that he played a jazz bass on most of the recordings and the RIC only live. looking for the geddy tone with the wrong bass:D

Well Mr. Dead, I really have to respectfully disagree with you. I feel you don't have enough evidence to supprt your statement. After all, I guess this argument is a hard sell for me, since this is an anti-Warwick thread. But I would put my Dolphin up against any Spector any day. But I think the others here are right: we all have differing tastes.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

Nice exchanging messages with you.

Respectfully,

Andy

Andy,
First of all, to be fair, I have never played a Dolphin so I won't comment on them. It is impossible to prove the contrasting differences between the '91 and '01 Thumb neck without your playing the two basses. So, you can choose to take my word for it or not and you apparently choose not. But, I'll just make some descriptive differences anyway. The '91 Thumb bass had a better fret job, better soldering, electronics quality as a whole, no fret buzzing (nothing could be done to alleviate fret buzzing on the new Thumb bass, that's why my buddy sold it) and more tonal depth.
Other than that, no, I can't prove it. Actually, I'm not trying to sway happy Warwick owners from their instruments. I'm just appropriately stating my experience on this thread. Ironically, the most over priced bass I've ever came across isn't a Warwick at all!!!
Please take no offense happy warwick users!
