Just curious

You can also slap the B string and muting is part of bass playing. I think most players can mute properly and should if they don't. Removing the string is an option. Whatever helps you make music. But there are better ways.

Any multi stringed instrument is difficult to mute. It just takes practice. Anyone who says a 5 string bass is difficult to mute hasn’t spent enough time practicing on said 5 string. For me by comparison, a 6 string is difficult to mute. Why? I don’t own a 6 string and the few that I’ve played and messed around with were difficult indeed because I haven’t spent enough time getting used to it.

A manual shifting car is difficult to drive if you’ve spent all your time in an automatic. Once you’ve been driving a stick shift for an extended amount of time, it’s very very easy.
